Where do you see unkind or unfriendly words? "Hyperbole" is
just another
word for "exaggeration", and above you did exactly that. You exaggerated
by a clear margin. Actually, all those people who can't install F8 from
media due to various problems (with unsupported hardware, undetected
drives, kernel problems e.g.) are sort of forced to wait for the next
release, which is after ~6 months. Unless there's a respin which
incorporates anaconda/kernel/... updates that fixes the people's
problems. And not many are courageous enough to try rawhide.
Fedora Unity is working on a Fedora 8 respin with an updated kernel and a fixed
Anaconda.
And then there's also the option of bypassing the installer entirely (at least
the buggy version):
* install Fedora 7 (or an even older release, but upgrading from Fedora <=6 is
going to be more painful due to the libata migration in Fedora 7)
* yum install apt
* point your /etc/apt/sources.list and/or /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list to
Fedora 8
* fix apt's list of "essential" packages (/etc/apt/rpmpriorities), see:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=426143
* apt-get update
* apt-get dist-upgrade
