How do you determine how people are spending their free time vs not? If they spend it on say kernel development or organizing charity as opposed to Fedora packaging, would you value them less?
 
And I'm not envious of Red Hat employees I seriously doubt that I will get the joy or satisfaction I get from working in the Fedora project by working on RHEL for Red Hat.

There are a number of people in Red Hat who exclusively work on Fedora.
