Only people who *actually want* alternate versions would enable
modules (and *-modular repos?), and they can then expected to know how

+1. I don't understand why Modularity was not implemented that way to begin
with.
I think that letting people drop ownership and maintenance of
"normal
packages" and *only* doing modules instead was a mistake. But that's
just my opinion ;)
