but this breaks %check/make test as the tests cannot find the local
library. Seems to down to autoreconf or chrpath, sigh.
How about adding this to the top of %check?
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$PWD/.libs
... adjusting the path as necessary so it points to the right place, of
course.
