Booting into another installed OS is the easiest way for me, but
there's always the rescue CD.

That's something desirable, indeed. I may considering setting up a
separate partition for /usr in the future.
Online resize with ext3... the patch is in the 2.6 kernel builds now
unless I missed a commit removing it :)
