One of the argument was that not every namespace on dist-git has a rawhide
version, for example containers do not have/use rawhide.

There is a fedora:rawhide base image container and I think most dockerfile from the master branch are using this image for their base. So calling the master branch rawhide would be ok for containers :-)
 
And having different default branches on different namespaces is not very
appealing.
