frustration concerning a change in system behavior that impacts your
site specific cronjobs (I'm assuming shell scripts) that only you have
access to and are not shipped with the OS.

Hey I've been there. I've seen changes up and down the stack over the
years that  caused failures in my personal shell and perl and python
scripts.  The switch to udev in particular was a _fun_ learning
experience.

But you really need to reset your expectations, and develop a roll out
plan for your critical systems that anticipates unexpected changes in
behavior between OS releases.
