[user@host ~]$ ls -l /var/log/boot.log
-rw------- 1 root root 0 2008-05-11 04:31 /var/log/boot.log
Why don't we start making use of boot.log... If the regular output is hidden, then
just redirect it to boot.log and if something does happen to go wrong, we can have
a notification in the GUI like we do for gnome-power-manager now.
The current code
(which isn't in rawhide yet) logs boot messages, and
a notification icon on errors has been discussed before.
