Metadata should be small enough for this : The current (compressed) common
XML metadata for the set of i386 development packages takes up a mere 1MB
;-)
Maybe it's even already included, but if not, you may want to poke someone
and/or file an RFE, as it does seem like a good idea to me.
I am a little confused as to what data yum does need - the current
version in rawhide (yum-2.1.3-1) appears to pull header data under some
circumstances - and the test2 exploded version has both repodata and
headers (although the headers appear to have been added later).
