As an FYI the KNotify crash seemed to be related to not having a sound card KDE is now running crash free. Here is my config:
-KVM-60
-soundhw es1370
-cirrus video driver
-selinux disabled

which seems to affect most/all folks trying to run kde4 under qemu.
