Dunno about nvidia, but you do not need to install the kernel source to
build he centrino drivers. They build fine with
/lib/modules/...../build. The centrino drivers are almost trivial to
build after a kernel upgrade.

Building the nvidia driver with the stock 2.6 kernel is a waste of time
anyway. It will not run.
