Package updates missing in Fedora 41 but present in Fedora 40

Hi all, It's that time of the year again - pointing out packages that are at a lower version in Fedora 41 (branched) than Fedora 40 (stable). For those that are just obviously missing unintentionally, I plan to submit the missing builds and bodhi updates later today. As for those updates that are handled by packit and which are missing Rawhide and / or Fedora 41 builds -- not sure what can be done here, but packit should be better than that. The Mass Rebuild build failed too, but koschei is green now. - gedit-control-your-tabs-0:0.4.1-1.fc40 > gedit-control-your-tabs-0:0.4.0-7.fc40 Looks like this one fails to build on Fedora 41+. - gimp3-0:2.99.19^20240916gitca9d57a417-1.fc40 > gimp3-0:2.99.19^20240824git74bbe26918-2.fc41 Looks like Fedora 41 has an older snapshot. The package was retired in Rawhide, but not in Fedora 41, so the fact that it's still in Fedora 41 is likely unintentional. - haruna-0:1.2.0-1.fc40 > haruna-0:1.1.2-3.fc41 This one was built for Fedora Rawhide and 40, but not 41. Should get fixed when / if the ffmpeg 7 rebuild lands. - keycloak-httpd-client-install-0:1.3-1.fc40 > keycloak-httpd-client-install-0:1.1-23.fc41 Looks like the 1.3 update was pushed to the f41 branch in dist-git, but never built. - matrix-synapse-0:1.111.1-1.fc40 > matrix-synapse-0:1.110.0-2.fc41 There's newer versions in Rawhide and F40, but not built for F41. Donate 1 minute of your time to test upgrades from F40 to F41

Do you want to make Fedora 41 better? Please spend 1 minute of your time and try to run: dnf --releasever=41 --enablerepo=updates-testing --assumeno distro-sync This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal potential problems. You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command. The `--assumeno` will just test the transaction, but does not make the actual upgrade. In case you hit dependency issues, please report it against the appropriate package. Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora 40. libimobiledevice stack update and soname bump

Hey folks, I'm updating the libimobiledevice stack in Rawhide. There are soname bumps for libimobiledevice, libirecovery and libusbmuxd. In addition to the stack itself, these packages will need to be rebuilt to accommodate for the bumps: clementine gvfs kf5-solid kf6-solid kio-extras kio-extras-kf5 libgpod upower This work is being coordinated in the f42-build-side-97252 sidetag. Maintainers in CC -- I'd appreciate if you could rebuild your packages in the sidetag, and verify that things are still working as expected. If you're comfortable with it, please also consider adding asahi-sig to your packages so that we can rebuild them ourselves for future updates. Zlib-ng rebase from 2.1.* to 2.2.* version

Hi, As part of the Zlib-ng Fedora Change [1] we're rebasing the Zlib-ng to a new major release 2.2.*. This release brings quite a lot of new optimizations to the zlib-ng which could be seen in the Fedora Change notes. After the first reviews, I started to doubt if the change was even necessary for this as the soname wasn't bumped and there is no API/ABI diffs (discussed with the upstream [2]). Either way, it's better to be safe than sorry, so I'm announcing this change here and if a FESCO decides that the change can be dropped we'll do so. Fedora rawhide (to be f41) and openssl engines

Dear colleagues, as the changes described in https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/OpensslDeprecateEngine were approved and implemented and a week or two has passed, we can summarize the consequences. Lack of openssl/engine.h file moved to a separate package is not processed correctly by packages and requires changes in specs which also comes with a cost. OpenSSL ABI is kept. On the other hand, CentOS stream uses a different approach when openssl keeps ABI, doesn't ship openssl/engine.h, and defines OPENSSL_NO_ENGINE explicitly, so old applications keep working and at the same time new application can mostly be rebuilt without significant problems. I understand that Fedora has much more packages but there are much less complaints from CentOS/RHEL than from Fedora. So I wonder if it's worth changing the engine deprecation mechanism in Fedora to the one we have in CentOS and if yes, what is the mechanism for such a change. -- Dmitry Belyavskiy

Rebuilding tesseract dependents in F42 for soversion change

Dear all, This PR: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/tesseract/pull-request/6 was recently merged and built: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-41b92bf172 It backports a PR that's merged upstream to change the Tesseract SOVERSION from maj.min.patch to only maj.min (Tesseract follows SemVer and already uses maj.min for its Windows build, so the Linux versioning was just a misconfiguration). So in the future, patch releases can be built without having to rebuild dependents! This also splits off tesseract-libs into a separate subpackage, which will make it easier in the future to have compat versions of tesseract since the libraries could coexist. Unfortunately I omitted to mention that tesseract dependencies have to be rebuilt - so we have to move slightly faster than usual to rebuild the dependents. This will be done in f42-build-side-96586 that's already created for updating ffmpeg (one of those packages that need tesseract). Looking for help with packaging RamaLama for Fedora.

RamaLama is an open source competitor to Ollama. The goal is to make the use of AI Models as simple as Podman or Docker. But able to support any AI Model registry. HuggingFace, Ollama as well as OCI Registries (quay.io, docker hug, artifactory ...) It uses either Podman or Docker under the hood to run your AI Models in containers, but can also run containers natively on the host. We are looking for contributors in any form, but really could use some help getting it packaged for Fedora, PyPy and Brew for Macs.
