Can I use nested macros in a .spec file ?
by Sébastien Boisvert
Hi,
My package (Ray) relies on mpich2. The new name for mpich2 is mpich, but the name is still
mpich2 in el6.
So I defined a variable named mpichName.
I was wondering why nested macros like this
one are not working:
%{_%{mpichName}_load}
However, this works, but it is longer:
%if %mpichName == "mpich"
%{_mpich_load}
%else
%{_mpich2_load}
%endif
Is there a syntax to use "%{_%{mpichName}_load}" (or is there a better way to do it) ?

* An XSS vulnerability was found in the Search field's auto-complete.
- New Features:
* Added support for anonymous access to public Local Sites.
* Added support for parallel-installed versions of Django.
- API Changes:
* The documentation for Review Group Resource no longer says that review
groups cannot be created through the API.
- Bug Fixes:
* Install/Upgrade:
* Fixed compatibility with Apache 2.4's method for authorization in newly
generated config files.
* Fixed an issue on some configurations where loading in initial schema
data for the database would fail
* rb-site upgrade --all-sites no longer throws an error if there are no
valid sites configured.
* Administration:
* Administrators now have access to all repositories, instead of just
public ones or ones they're a member of.
* Repositories backed by paths that no longer exist can now be hidden.
* Fixed creating groups and repositories that had conflicting "unique"
fields.
* Password fields no longer appear blank when they have a value in forms.
* Setting https in the server URL now properly marks the server as using
HTTPS. All URLs generated for the API and e-mails will include https
instead of http.
* Fixed incorrect labelling for the review request status graph in the
Admin dashboard.
* LDAP:
* Usernames, passwords, and other information are properly encoded to UTF-8
before authenticating.
* Users without e-mail addresses in LDAP no longer break when first
authenticating.
* Dashboard:
* Fixed support for accessing watched groups through the Dashboard.
* Repositories:
* Copied files in Git diffs no longer results in File Not Found errors, and
properly handles showing the state much like moved files.
* Added better compatibility with Mercurial repository when accessing
hg-history URLs, when the server name didn't contain a trailing slash.
* Added better CVS compatibility for repositories that don’t contain
CVSROOT/modules.
* Fixed issues with Clear Case in multi-site mode when OIDs weren’t yet
available on the server.

Yep, a lot of fun - three different file systems for free different products.
And we are back to the question how much these products could differ - with
limited resources we have right now - at least short term. Who can answer it
- filesystem/kernel guys, if they are able and willing to support all
potential filesystem, as David stated, it's possible in Anaconda but again
the same question if the team would be able to maintain more filesystems
support with high bar in terms of quality (even for example brtfs limited
to bare minimum), QA... And it could be pretty confusing for users but that's
up to us/marketing to explain that products aim specific goal and it's for
good (if we would be able to support it - then it's for good, if not...).
Adding devel list to CC - I expect another topic Base should be involved
too.
And no, no elections for file system. It's really up to WGs and coordination
with the rest teams.

Orphaning spacewalk-branding
by Miroslav Suchý
Hi,
I just orphaned spacewalk-branding. New version have new dependency (bootstrap-less), which is not present in Fedora and
I have no intention to package it there.

GSoC feedback.
by Vidhun Vinod
Hey everyone,
I'm currently working on refining the GSoC idea "Infrastructure for
FreeMedia group". I've worked out some key points for this. It would be
nice if I could get some suggestions and feddback on this so that I can
work on making my proposal.
Key Points:
Required actors:
1> General (non members)
2> Volunteers / donors (member)
3> Receivers / Acceptors (member)
4> Admin
1. General:
- Have no account on site, therefore cannot make request or volunteer.
- They can however, view list of scopes, volunteers, volume
transacted(successful media's) etc.
- Make a donation to a particular volunteer.
2. Volunteers:
- A volunteer can also be an acceptor (probably for a different scope).
- Mark to volunteer for a scope (can be multiple).
- Sorted list of all receiver requesting for a scope the volunteer is
checked to.
- Sorting is done using the source and destination address to calculate
a distance matrix using the Google Maps Distance
Map<https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/distancematrix>api
and sort based on shortest distance.
- Ability to view receivers reason for request, just so that the
receiver can decide who he needs to send to.
3. Receivers:
- A receiver can also be a volunteer.
- Can request and receive a particular scope ONCE.
- Have to specify the reason for the request, (how are you going to make
use of thiS? [optional]
- Track the shipments. [open for discussion, have been Googling this for
a while now for the required tracking api's].
- Mark and let the volunteer know that a particular scope is received.
- Make a donation or just say thanks.
- Request admin for a new scope.
4. Admin:
- Make new scopes.
- View statistics, like request unattended, sent items etc.
- Manage user requested scopes.
Other points:
Would it help, if it was possible to make anyone(member) make a scope
anytime without the approval from the admin, although more priority can be
given to admin generated scope.
Thanks for your time.
Regards.

F21 System Wide Change: Access control in PCSC
by Jaroslav Reznik
= Proposed System Wide Change: Access control in PCSC =
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/PcscAccessControl
Change owner(s): Nikos Mavrogiannopoulos <nmav(a)redhat.com>
Add access control to PC/SC smart cards available in the system. Adding access
control would (a) prevent unauthorized processes/users from reading data on a
smart card, (b) prevent unauthorized processes/users from erasing a smart
card, (c) prevent unauthorized processes/users from talking to the smart card
firmware.
== Detailed Description ==
Add access control to PC/SC smart cards available in the system. Currently
smart cards may provide their own access control for certain elements of a
card such as a private key. Their access control method is typically a PIN,
but can also be a biometric based one. That however, is not sufficient to
prevent certain actions on the non-PIN protected elements. For example cards
that provide a PKCS #15 filesystem can be modified by anyone that has access in
the system (e.g., erased using pkcs15-init -E).
The default settings allowed should be similar to the default settings for
hard disks, i.e., root and the user in console should be able to access the
smart card.
Adding access control would
* prevent unauthorized processes/users from reading data on a smart card
* prevent unauthorized processes/users from erasing a smart card
* prevent unauthorized processes/users from talking to the smart card firmware
The way access control will be implemented is using polkit which is already
being used to control access to hard disks. As smart cards share a lot with
hard disks (e.g., a filesystem, and are inserted by the console user), sharing
the same access control method is beneficial.
== Scope ==
polkit support has to be added to PC/SC daemon. An initial version has already
been developed and communicated upstream
* Proposal owners: The polkit support has to be merged with the Fedora
package. That requires changes to the pcsc daemon only, but indirectly all
packages that potentially may use smart cards are affected (opensc, firefox,
...).
* Other developers: Packages that use PC/SC smart cards must be checked that
they work as expected after the access control change.
* Release engineering: No coordination is required.
* Policies and guidelines: If there is any security policy documentation
should be updated to include the new policies on smart cards (I couldn't find
any such documentation though)

Fwd: Server Technical Specification: Agenda and First Draft

For the sake of keeping people in the loop, here's a first pass at the
Fedora Server technical specification that we will be discussing in a

If you can't attend, please make comments on the

I've created a wiki page[1] for the Technical Specification that we
are working on. I've copied much of the structure from the Workstation
tech spec, as it was well organized.
There are quite a few sections in it that I have tagged as UNAPPROVED.
I believe we need to make these the agenda for the Tech Spec Working
Session today. What we will do is quickly go through each of them.
We'll mark any that are uncontested as "Approved" and then go back and
discuss any that need discussion.

Service units for web applications
by Stephen Gallagher
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
So, I have an interesting problem to solve. I have a package that
installs a web application[1] that is run automatically with
httpd.service. The package can be deployed for one or more "sites" on
the system (which may be different apache virtual hosts or just
different paths on the same virtual host).
On version upgrades, there is a helper script that needs to be run for
each "site" of this package on the system to make sure that its
database is updated with the latest schema changes.
Originally, this helper script would have to be run manually for each
site after the package was upgraded (and if you forgot, the
application might not function correctly until you did so).
I worked with upstream and added a new feature that allows updating
all sites on the current system from a single command (getting the
list of installed sites from a data file in a known location). I added
this script to the %post of the RPM package so it would be run
automatically on package upgrade.
One problem with this approach is that it will force the database
upgrade for all sites on the system, regardless of whether the httpd
service is running (or currently serving that site), which could lead
to unexpected behavior. The other issue with this approach is that it
doesn't necessarily play nice with OSTree, since %post only gets
executed on the OSTree host and not on the clients.
I'd much rather be able to add the database upgrade script to a
per-site service unit, so that it would only be invoked as an
ExecStartPre command. This way, it would only be invoked if the
service was actually being launched on the system.
There are actually two pieces to this that I'd like to see (and
hopefully have someone tell me are already possible):
1. The ability to add new ExecStartPre commands to the httpd service
when installing new sites.
2. The ability to enable and disable specific apache sites from
systemctl. Basically, I'd like to have a symlink added or removed
from /etc/httpd/conf.d based on whether httpd-mysite.service was
enabled or disabled.
The ultimate goal here would be for me to be able to install a
reviewboard-sitename.conf file to e.g. /etc/systemd/httpd/ and have it
symlinked into /etc/httpd.conf.d when the service was enabled. This
service file could then be PartOf=httpd.service and run ExecStartPre
to invoke the upgrade script.
So, am I on track here, and if so: how can I do this?
[1] The package is Review Board, a Django application.

Fedora Atomic Initiative (rpm-ostree 2014.5)
by Colin Walters
Hi,
I'm happy to announce a new version of rpm-ostree - v2014.5:
https://github.com/cgwalters/rpm-ostree/commit/848fdcb350877ab509c2fef3e4...
With this new release, there is now a new overarching name/brand for
the project formerly known as "rpm-ostree":
Fedora Atomic Initiative
------------------------
The new website replaces the old one:
http://rpm-ostree.cloud.fedoraproject.org/
The website is hopefully more informative now. rpm-ostree was
previously mentioned here:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2014-January/194156.html
Which got some LWN coverage here:
http://lwn.net/Articles/581811
I also gave a talk at Devconf.cz, which is recorded (albeit truncated)
here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy0ZEHPXJ9Q
Changes
-------
Since the last release, SELinux now works in fully enforcing mode. This
is built on top of new SELinux support in the new core OSTree v2014.2
release:
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/ostree-list/2014-March/msg00000.html
The rpm-ostree-autobuilder component now generates data sufficient to
present a UI of the generated trees, with *automatically* generated
screenshots:
http://rpm-ostree.cloud.fedoraproject.org/#/build-status
(Yes, it's a "build" system that takes screenshots, because it's also a
*testing* system - I believe the two should come tightly coupled).
There is now the concept of a "treefile", which is kind of like a
kickstart, except without the partition provisioning and ability to
execute arbitrary code:
https://github.com/cgwalters/rpm-ostree/blob/master/doc/demo-treefile.json
What's next
-----------
The rationale behind the broader branding of the Fedora Atomic
Initiative is that rpm-ostree is not an island - the long term vision
has a potentially deep impact on the Fedora project technology,
structure, and culture. You can see some of the requisite technological
changes here:
https://github.com/cgwalters/fedora-atomic/blob/master/TODO.md
An example of a potential cultural shift is:
http://fedorapeople.org/~walters/devconf-2014-rpm-ostree/#13
In general, I hope for more people in the project to *additionally* see
software as trees, not just packages.
Imagine for example of applying the "branch+merge" concept to entire
collections of packages. Say for example that we were doing another
technology change on the magnitude of systemd. I'd like to make it easy
to create a fork of the OS, with patches to *multiple* packages, test
those changes as a unit, and merge them as a unit back into the
mainline.
In the short term though, the goals are:
1) Test rawhide (the RPMs)
2) Improve the rpm-ostree/OSTree code
For 1), I think I can demonstrate some powerful value as far as testing
goes. Enough that I believe it will offset the costs of having Anaconda
support, for example.
To recap again, the TODO list is:
https://github.com/cgwalters/fedora-atomic/blob/master/TODO.md
Some of those, such as the /var have active ongoing discussion. Others
like /usr/lib/passwd don't - and I would very much like to have
/usr/lib/passwd just be the Fedora default. So for that, I'll post a
new thread at some point soon.
That's all - there's no separate mailing list for this initiative yet -
so please just reuse this fedora-devel-list!
