Why do we need FC version attached to the package name?
by Bharath
Hi all,
Why is necessary to have a particular package tagged as fc10 or fc11?? What
is the significance.? As it is, versions of the packages keep changing
independent of the Fedora versions.
For example :
kdebase-4.2.3-1.fc10.i386 is available for fc10
and the same version
kdebase-4.2.3-1.fc11.i386 is available for fc11
It wastes space, time(while upgrading from fc10 to fc11).... (I invite ppl to
add to the list)
Regards
Bharath

evolution+openchange crash
by Matthew Woehlke
Before filing a bug, I'd like to get another opinion. I'm seeing the
following crash in evolution, using openchange with $DAYJOB's exchange
server. It's dying in libical, but from the libical portion of the stack
trace, exchange-mapi seems to be the problem. However according to gdb,
the parameter is fine when passed. Any thoughts? If I file this, should
it be against evolution-mapi, or libical?
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Pidgin Issue, F11 64bit
by Aly Dharshi
Hello Folks,
Sorry for the hijacking of another thread. I fired up pidgin via the cmd
line and get the following error:
$ pidgin
(pidgin:25897): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_register: assertion
`g_type_is_a (type, GST_TYPE_ELEMENT)' failed
ERROR: Caught a segmentation fault while loading plugin file:
/usr/lib64/gstreamer-0.10/libgsttcp.so
Please either:
- remove it and restart.
- run with --gst-disable-segtrap and debug.
Is there something I can do to fix this and get my stuff working again ?
Empathy has the same issue.
Cheers,
ASD.

more debugging enabled in rawhide kernels.
by Dave Jones
In tomorrows rawhide kernel, I've enabled a debugging option
called kmemleak. As the name suggests, this tracks memory allocations,
and prints backtraces in cases where the memory is believed to be lost.
Things of note:
- This tracking doesn't come for free, so things may slow down.
In some cases, perhaps considerably.
- You may see backtraces in dmesg like ..
kmemleak: unreferenced object 0xdb804c40 (size 20):
kmemleak: comm "swapper", pid 0, jiffies 4294667296
kmemleak: backtrace:
kmemleak: [<c04fd8b3>] kmemleak_alloc+0x193/0x2b8
kmemleak: [<c04f5e73>] kmem_cache_alloc+0x11e/0x174
kmemleak: [<c0aae5a7>] debug_objects_mem_init+0x63/0x1d9
kmemleak: [<c0a86a62>] start_kernel+0x2da/0x38d
kmemleak: [<c0a86090>] i386_start_kernel+0x7f/0x98
kmemleak: [<ffffffff>] 0xffffffff
Hold off on reporting them just yet. There are some known traces
(like that one for eg) which we are aware of already, without needing
tracking bugs for them. Hopefully we can nail the obvious bugs &
false positives quickly.

software raid devices automatically getting checked ?
by Thomas Vander Stichele
Hi,
My F11 machine spontaneously started checking the software raid devices:
Jun 25 03:06:13 ana pcscd: winscard.c:309:SCardConnect() Reader E-Gate 0
0 Not Found
Jun 25 03:26:02 ana kernel: md: data-check of RAID array md0
Jun 25 03:26:02 ana kernel: md: minimum _guaranteed_ speed: 1000
KB/sec/disk.
Jun 25 03:26:02 ana kernel: md: using maximum available idle IO
bandwidth (but not more than 200000 KB/sec) for data-check.
Jun 25 03:26:02 ana kernel: md: using 128k window, over a total of
208704 blocks.
Jun 25 03:26:02 ana kernel: md: delaying data-check of md1 until md0 has
finished (they share one or more physical units)
Jun 25 03:26:12 ana kernel: md: md0: data-check done.
Jun 25 03:26:12 ana kernel: md: data-check of RAID array md1
Jun 25 03:26:12 ana kernel: md: minimum _guaranteed_ speed: 1000
KB/sec/disk.
Jun 25 03:26:12 ana kernel: md: using maximum available idle IO
bandwidth (but not more than 200000 KB/sec) for data-check.
Jun 25 03:26:12 ana kernel: md: using 128k window, over a total of
974446592 blocks.
This is a check, not a resync, as can be seen here:
md1 : active raid1 sdb3[0] sda3[1]
974446592 blocks [2/2] [UU]
[==================>..] check = 92.9% (905802048/974446592)
finish=45.0min speed=25419K/sec
All my googling only turns up posts from Ubuntu/Debian where there is a
cron job script to check the raid devices every first Sunday of the
month. There is no such cron job configured on Fedora.
Anyone know what would have triggered this ? There are no other related
messages in the kernel log, and this has never happened to me before
F-11.
Thanks
Thomas
