[JANITOR] Duplicate directory ownership cleanups
by Tom Callaway
Hi, I'm Scruffy, the Fedora Janitor.
Today (and likely, over the next few days/weeks), I'll be going through
and making minor changes to packages in rawhide (and only in rawhide)
where there are cases of unnecessary duplicate directory ownership.
Please do not be alarmed!
As an example example:
/usr/share/pear/Console was owned by both:
* php-pear-Console-ProgressBar
* php-pear
php-pear-Console-ProgressBar Requires: php-pear, so I changed it to not
own the directory (it still owns all of its files in that directory,
just not the directory itself).
I won't be fixing cases where the duplicate directory ownership is
acceptable, like much of the perl structure, so you don't have to worry
about that. Nevertheless, if you see me make a change that you don't
think is right, feel free to email me or ping me on irc (spot).
Please be sure that you have the latest cvs revision before you go
through and overwrite my cleanups.
Thanks in advance,
~spot

Porting amarok-1.4 to F11
by Ingvar Hagelund
As one of many, I'm the semi-happy owner of an Apple iPhone. The iPhone and the iPod Touch's media player db is well supported under Linux, using tools like libgpod, and iFuse or sshfs for access. Until recently, one could use amarok as a front end to sync content. But amarok-2.x does not (yet) support non-hardware (that is, not found by HAL) mounts.
It should be possible to make amarok-1.4 to work on F11. It is still maintained in epel, and the compilation fixes for F11 consisted of adding a few #include statements here and there. So it works - almost. It can read the db, but fails writing to it.
While waiting for amarok-2.x to support scripting or fuse mounts, I could use some advice on getting 1.4 to work. All the parts seems to be present, I just can't get them to play together.

Streaming terminal output to a file
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I'm trying to stream a stack traceback to a file so that I can add it to
a bug for firefox. However, the likes of firefox > firefox.txt, firefox
2> firefox.txt and firefox &> firefox.txt either dumps nothing or dumps
something, but in all cases, not the stack traceback.
What do I need to do to save the traceback?

Uff, now I see that Lennart Poettering, Pulse Audio Guru, has already
answered about this post on PA mailing list, sorry ;)
Lennart:
"Nah, this is a complete and utter bullshit story. Slashdot just proved
again that it is full of nonsense. Gah. Disgusting.
I don't think that this deserves a real response. I mean
really, this smells more like a astroturfing from 4front, with all
that OSS4 fanboyism.
This guys is just some lame fud blogger, not a technical guy who does
any real the work, knows the technical details, works with the
community and gets his stuff into the kernel or the distributions.
Would be good if Slashdot would verify that the folks whose story they
post actually know what they are talking about. Because this dude
obviously hasn't. But I guess Slashdot is not the New York Times and
asking some actual respected Linux developers or even just
linux-audio-devel before publishing such FUD stories would be asking for
too much.
That famous Adobe jungle picture that was posted 2007 was grossly
misleading already, and it still is. At least arts, nas, esd, oss were
obsolete back then already, and mentioning almost unknown niche system
such as Allegro or ClanLib doesn't make it any better.
What I have to say about the situation of Linux audio APIs I posted here:
http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/guide-to-sound-apis.html
If you care enough about slashdot, then try to get them to bring a
story about that blog story, even if it is already frm last year. As a
change from their usual stories this one, as I dare to say, would be
written by someone who has at least a bit insight into what's really
going on. ;-)

How user could loose his "CLA done" status?
by Peter Lemenkov
Hello All!
There is a newbie fedora packager, whom I sponsored not so long time
ago - he seems very active and enthusiastic, and almost every day he
asks me some advice on his (still not included into Fedora) package.
Today, I was badly surprised to see that he lost his "CLA done" status
- I asked him, what's happens? Maybe he is just gave up or this is
(possibly) his technical issue? But he swears that he didn't do
anything destructive with his account so far. The only suspicious
issue, is that he has some troubles with firefox - it refuses to
remember his login and password for Fedora and he frequently uses
"forgot my password" feature.
Can someone check the status of this issue (whether it's a user's
mistake or infrastructure bug)? User - aleksey2005

Re: REMINDER: End of life of Fedora 9

I guess it also means that a lot of F9 bugs in bugzilla will get auto-closed very soon...
The fedora-i18n team did its little bit going through a bunch for bugs cc i18n-team, but that still leaves over 2300 bugs in NEW or ASSIGNED as I write.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?product=Fedora&version=9&bug_stat...
I wish people will find a bit of time to go through their F9 bugs these two weeks leading up to the EOL. Luckily there are just a few bugs in MODIFIED. :)

xterm terminfo spec change in ncurses
by Michael Cronenworth
Over the past three years, I have yet to know what is the "official"
xterm spec. Everyone seems to follow whatever they want.
Some history:
I use a home-grown application that is exclusively terminal-based. It
relies on SHIFT+Fn for certain functionality following the "official"
xterm spec.
Sometime back in Fedora 7 (yep, 2 years ago) the vte library decided to
fix a "bug"[1] with the escape sequences with CTRL+Arrow keys. This
change caused SHIFT+F1 through SHIFT+F4 to emit the wrong xterm sequences.
Example:
xterm spec[2]
SHIFT+F4 = ^[O2S
vte-based terminal (gnome-terminal, Terminal, etc.)
SHIFT+F4 = ^[O1;2S
Needless to say, my app wouldn't function correctly.
With Fedora 11, a new ncurses-base package has brought new xterm specs!
I didn't know xterm was still in pro-active development.
new xterm spec
SHIFT+F1 = ^[[1;2S
I realize most people won't see this because it seems rare for apps to
need SHIFT+Fn, but it's a two year old problem fixing to become a three
year old problem. I'd like to squash these spec differences once and for
all. My bug[3] reports[4] that include solutions have gone unheeded.
Now it seems that the "official" spec[2] page is messed up. It used to
show that ^[O2S was the correct sequence for SHIFT+F4, but the images
are distorted.
