All I want for Christmas is digiKam 1.0 in F12-stable...
by linux guy
digiKam 1.0.0 was released today. I think a lot of us are running
1.0-beta 6 installed via yum. Would it be possible to get 1.0.0 into
F12 stable prior to Christmas ?
I know I can build it from source, but I need to install it on several
machines and it would be much easier to do it via a yum update. I'm
also behind on my Christmas shopping...
Thanks for listening.
Season's Greetings !

Create a -cli package without a different executable
by Fabien Nicoleau
Hi,
I'm packaging phatch that provides /usr/bin/phatch, a graphical
application to manage some operations on photos. It handles command
line parameters so that it can be used in a script, without a GUI :
if no parameters are given, a GUI is displayed, otherwise it acts as a
console application.
Upstream asked me if it's possible to keep "phatch" package, containing
the graphical requirements (and requires) and requires phatch-cli, and
create a phatch-cli, that provides /usr/bin/phatch. With this way,
people could just install phatch-cli on a server and use it with
command line parameters (but it would crash if it's not launched with
parameters).
My question is :
is it good to provide a -cli package that does not provides a separate
script or executable file, and that will work only if the user is
carefull to not launch it in a way that it does not require a graphic
lib (without parameters in that context) ?

2009-10-22 - Power Management Test Day report
by Phil Knirsch
Here a short report from the Power Management Fedora Test day on
10/22/09 [1]. First of all many thanks to all the people who
participated in it and who reported their findings. In order to make
things easier for testers and to make sure we get a lot more stable and
comparable results Marcela Maslanova, Jan Vcelak and Petr Lautrbach put
together a rpm that consisted of all our test scripts, an easy
call-script to easily run them and a "collect" script to pack together
all results. Additionally the rpm itself has requirements against all
the packages we needed for the tests, so a simple installation of the
testday rpm provided a solid and easy method for every tester. This
worked out really well and made test results very consistent.
Unfortunately time ran out for including the automatic upload script
from Mike McGrath and the ALPM test script, but that didn't seem to pose
a big problem, roughly half of the testers provided results for ALPM as
well.
We got 30 results overall with half of them including ALPM test results,
too. Overall the results showed us what we wanted to know:
- The tools we're shipping are working as expected, no crashes or
anything like that observed
- Wakeups and system behavior in genereral in comparison to our Fedora
11 test day doesn't show any regressions
- New features seem to be working as expected
Rudolf Kastel discovered one strange bug with one of the profiles which
we couldn't reproduce yet, but we're still investigating with him.
All in all the whole test day was a real success. Especially the great
idea of Marcela, Jan and Petr to make a rpm for the testday which
automated a lot of the work that needed to be done.
For the next testday we already plan to expand that idea and include the
automated upload script which will make it even easier for the testers.

Texlive schemes?
by Christoph Höger
Hi all,
after texlive 2009 crashed my latex compiling process one day before I
wanted to print my dipl-thesis (kpsewhich hanging indefinitely), I
erased all texlive* files.
From my last installation experience I learned that installing only
texlive leaves you with a non-working system (for my needs), so I wanted
to simplify things by installing the full or medium scheme.
[choeger@choeger5 ~]$ LC_ALL=C sudo yum install texlive-scheme-full
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
No package texlive-scheme-full available.
Nothing to do
Shouldn't that work?

Can't rebuild emacs RPM in F12
by Andrew Haley
I have installed emacs-23.1-10.fc12.src.rpm
Then, when I run
$ rpmbuild -ba emacs.spec
I get
...
+ /usr/bin/make bootstrap
(cd src; /usr/bin/make bootstrap-clean)
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/aph/rpmbuild/BUILD/emacs-23.1/src'
Makefile:103: *** commands commence before first target. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/aph/rpmbuild/BUILD/emacs-23.1/src'
I can't understand this at all. I tried it on two F12 installations.
Surely someone must have built emacs?
This is x86_64, BTW.

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Red Hat Bugzilla 3.4 RC
by James Laska
I am sending this on behalf of Dave Lawrence and the bugzilla team at
Red Hat. Please forward this on to any appropriate lists that were
missed.
========
FINAL CHANGEOVER DATE: Friday, January 8th, 2010 6:00pm EST (23:00:00
UTC)
Mark your calendars! We are expecting the migration to take no more than
6 hours.
Please let us know at bugzilla-owner(a)redhat.com if this date is in
conflict with any release schedules, etc.
Greetings,
The Red Hat Bugzilla team is happy to announce the release candidate of
the next version of Red Hat Bugzilla based on the upstream
3.4 code base.
So far there has been little to no feedback on our betas so please use
this last opportunity to test drive at:
https://partner-bugzilla.redhat.com
Over the years Red Hat has made substantial customizations to Bugzilla
to fit into the Engineering tool chain. Over time the
upstream has incorporated some of these customizations or solved them in
different ways. Upgrading reduces our customization
footprint (and thus maintenance) while bringing many bug fixes &
enhancements.
The main area of focus for our public betas are stability. Functionality
that currently works in our 3.2 code base should continue
to work as expected in the new 3.4 release. These include various ajax
optimizations, needinfo actor support, frontpage.cgi, product
browser, several various UI enhancements, and of course the XMLRPC API.
Please feel free to point your various scripts and third party
applications that use the XMLRPC API at the test server to make sure
they continue to function properly.
There are numerous other changes behind the scenes that we haven't
listed. The goal is to make sure that functionality that people
have come to expect in 3.2 is possible in the new system.
There are also numerous new features/fixes that are part of the upstream
3.4 release. For more detailed information on what has
changed since the last release, check out release notes here:
https://partner-bugzilla.redhat.com/page.cgi?id=release-notes.html
The database is a recent snapshot of the live database so should be
useful for testing to make sure the information is displayed
properly and changeable. Also with a full snapshot it is possible to
test for any performance related issues. Email has been
disabled so that unnecessary spam is not sent out. So feel free to make
changes to bugs to verify proper working order.
We are asking for everyone to get involved as much as possible with
testing and feedback on the beta releases to help us make this
the most robust and stable release possible.
Please file any enhancement requests or bug reports in our current
Bugzilla system go here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Bugzilla&version=3.4
To see current list of 3.4 related bugs as well as blockers for release,

dist-git help wanted: write me a regex!
by Jesse Keating
The kernel module is full of changelogs that start with:
Thu Dec 17 2009 Jarod Wilson <jarod(a)redhat.com> 2.6.32.1-11
of course the date, name, email and revision will change, but the format
is the same. This data is not really necessary in git, as we have all
of that already, and it makes shortlog rather useless.
parsecvs has a feature that allows one to filter out parts of log
messages, and it requires a perl regex to find the lines to strip out.
I'm no regex hacker, but I bet some of you are. Can somebody please
write me a regex that will catch the above line, and others like it?
Thanks!
