rkhunter aborting
by Paulo Cavalcanti
Hi,
the latest rkhunter is using the following tmp file
(/etc/cron.dayly/rkhunter):
# Get a secure tempfile
TMPFILE1=`/bin/mktemp -p /var/rkhunter/tmp rkhcronlog.XXXXXXXXXX` || exit 1
However, /var/rkhunter/tmp is not create by the rpm, and of course, the
script always stops.
Previously, it was being used /var/run/rkhunter.
My question is: what the new version is supposed to do?
Maybe it wanted to use /var/tmp/rkhunter (not /var/rkhunter/tmp) instead of
writing in /var/run/rkhunter.
In this case, I also think the permission of this directory should 700.
Another point, is that rkhunter always send messages even when there is no
warning,
and sometimes it complains that there is no copy of /etc/group and
/etc/passwd.
How can I fix that?
Thanks.

"Fedora Project summary and awards" - end of RedHat support?
by Valent Turkovic
Hi,
I read a really disturbing message on local news group. One person has
posted a question why is RedHat stopping support for Fedora Project.
He clamis that he read that on RedHat press [1] page. That page is 404
now, but he swears that it was up. The summary was that RedHat is
stopping support for Fedora Project after Fedora 10 and that it is
giving awards for best contributers. I know that there is no page
there now, but still I had to ask if anybody knows anything. Is this
just FUD?
Cheers,
Valent.

Retiring Opyum
by Debarshi Ray
Since Pirut has been replaced with PackageKit, and we already have a
GSoC student working on adding service pack support to PackageKit [1],
it does not make sense to keep Opyum [2] anymore in the distribution.
Therefore I would like to retire the package from Fedora 9 and
Rawhide.
Before someone jumps up and asks how Opyum made it into Fedora 9 when
Pirut (a critical dependency) is missing, let me tell you what
happened.
Jeremy Katz had been nice enough to notify me during the Fedora 9
cycle about his plans of retiring Pirut. However none of the
subsequent rawhide reports till date mentions opyum's missing
dependency on pirut. This had led me to believe that for some reason
Fedora 9 had still retained Pirut, until I got this:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=448324 Since the rawhide
reports are usually accurate, I fear I might have dropped the ball
somewhere and made a fool of myself.
Does anyone have any objections?
Happy hacking,
Debarshi

Fedora's GtkSpell -> Enchant customisation
by Michael Schwendt
Bugzilla Bug 245888: Make gtkspell support Enchant/Hunspell
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/245888
This patch is from December 2007 and is not included in the new GtkSpell 2.0.12
upstream update from May 2008. Has anything been done to get this accepted
upstream?

Tom,
Im assuming you are talking about my commit
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-extras-commits/2008-April/msg02319...
as the other cvsextras person to have touched java-1.6.0-openjdk package. I
looked though the list archives and other than commits by lillian, lkundrak
and yourself its the only other commit since the package was created. I
worked with lillian as i was developing the changes to add support to the
spec file to build using the zero engine it was done as part of Secondary
Architectures as defined http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures This
commit is part of the same effort. Fully integrating the asm that sun
released to enable java to work natively on sparc architectures. These
patches need to head upstream. I planned to work with Lillian this week to
ensure that they do. We can now build openjdk for 32 and 64 bit sparc linux.
previously the patches that went upstream only allowed 32 bit to be built.
We are still getting F-9 completely built so we need these patches commited
to F-9 so we can build the latest java-1.5.0-gcj since it uses the javadoc
from openjdk to build the documentation which in turn will let us build the
rest of the java applications.

Dennis
