rpmreaper
by Miroslav Lichvar
Hi,
I've put together a small ncurses application for removing unnecessary
packages and their dependencies from the system.
In a mutt-like interface it allows to browse through dependencies,
select packages and run rpm -e on them.
For those who don't want to start under root some random stuff downloaded
from internet, it can be used under a regular user too. On exit, when
asked to not try to run rpm -e, it will write to stdout the list of
selected packages.

Werewolf -> Sulphur -> <blank>? Sulphur is a <blank>, <NewName> is a <blank>
by Josh Boyer
Let the naming begin! We're starting very early this time around in
the name game for F10. So, let the suggestions flow!
Remember the rules:
1) <NewName> must have some link to Sulphur
More specifically, the link should be
Sulphur is a <blank> and
<NewName> is a <blank>
Where <blank> is the same for both
2) The link between <NewName> and Sulphur cannot be the same as between
Werewolf and Sulphur. That link was "things that react badly with
silver".
I will be collecting suggestions for 1 week, so the cutoff for names is:
May 29, 2008
Suggestions will be run through the legal queue and an election will
happen for Fedora contributors to pick the next Fedora name.

totem* 2.23.2 in stable updates
by Naheem Zaffar
Just checking the current lot of updates to Fedora 9 and totem* 2.23.2
came to my attention. Looking in packagekiot, the previously installed
is also 2.23.2.
I though the stable gnome components should be at 2.22.x at the
moment, so i am wondering wether this is an accident or on purpose.
(if on purpose, I trust the maintainers to have valid reasons. I will
not second guess them.)

Need help with openvpn behavior
by Christoph Höger
Hi,
currently I cannot fix #446335 because of some strange openvpn settings:
NetworkManager-openvpn starts openvpn with
--up nm-openvpn-service-helper
That is basically to allow NetworkManager to update the IPv4
configuration.
The problem occurs when the helper trys to figure out what the remote
machine is by evaluating environment vars set by openvpn.
In some configurations "trusted_ip" holds that info, in some its just
"remote_1" and -even worse- I just had a test where that remote ip is
not stored in _any_ variable in a simple tun/psk connection.
This also makes
NetworkManager-openvpn-0.7.0-13.svn3632.fc9.i386
a regression for some users currently as I switched usage of
"trusted_ip" to "remote_1"
I would patch that to make "remote_1" a fallback if "trusted_ip" is not
set but that does not
So does anyone know how to get openvpn to _always_ set a var which holds
the remote ip and which it is?
thank you for any advice

Toshio is vacationing
by Toshio Kuratomi
Hi all,
I'll be vacationing from tomorrow to the 1st of July (be back in
California July 2nd.) My packages should all have open acls so feel
free to fix and I've added myself to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Vacation
There's some changes in the packagedb that are very nice but I don't
want to push them while I'm on vacation as I've noticed some slowness on
certain queries. :-( If someone else wants to do so, I'm totally fine
with it as long as you have the old packages available to rollback in
case we start getting timeouts.
python-fedora-devel has been updated to a new version. But there's a
few very strange things happening in the new jsonfas interface. I've
clued lmacken in on that so if he has time to work on it we could end up
pushing the new stuff to some test servers. Otherwise it will probably
wait until after I get back in July.
I'll stop by on IRC once in a while but I'm going to make a conscious
effort not to check my email ;-) See you all in July!

Re: [packaging] LSB Package API

I dislike that route intensely. Why, I'm not sure. Perhaps
because it encourages ISVs to manage package updates themselves,
perhaps because it smacks of the complexity of Microsoft's MSI.
I'm more interested in the single-click install idea Suse's
working on, since it's much less of an end run around
normal Linux packaging practices. And I have a summer intern
to throw at the problem, so perhaps I'll make some headway on
it.
Can we move followups to packaging(a)lists.linux-foundation.org rather
than cc'ing all those lists?

xulrunner and silent breakage of downstream apps
by Michel Salim
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
The recent push of xulrunner-1.9 and Firefox 3 broke Miro and devhelp
(https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F9/pending/devhelp-0.19.1-2.fc9)
again.
Is there a way to declare these kinds of dependencies that we are not
using right now? Should Miro and devhelp specifically require xulrunner
= %{version}-%{release} -- or perhaps a more administrative solution;
block a non-security release of xulrunner for at least one day and
automatically notify the maintainers of its dependents?
Thanks,
