- kde-4.1.2 status
- mysql-embedded for amarok2, bug #149829 [1]
- libkipi framework: kdegraphics, Digikam in F10
- kpackagekit status
- knetworkmanager status
- F-10/kde artwork, theme.
- echo-icon-theme status report
= Summary =
kde-4.1.2 status:
-------------------------
* All packages are already imported and built for F9 and F10.
* kde-settings in F9 will be updated and the F10 version will be bumped to
don't overlap anymore.
echo-icon-theme status report:
--------------------------------------------
* The default icon theme in F10 will still be Oxygen/Fedora-KDE.
* There will be likely not enough time to fix all the missing icons for F10.
* A report of echo-icon-theme in KDE lists many missing icons. [2]
* A wiki page about missing icons in KDE was set up. [3]
mysql-embedded for amarok2:
--------------------------------------------
* The next beta of amarok2 will use mysql-embedded which isn't available in
Fedora.
* An old RFE also requests this enhancement (#149829). [1]
* We'll need to talk to the mysql-maintainers to make it possible to ship a
mysql-embedded package in F10.
* In a worst-case-scenario we'll have to fall back to amarok1 in F10.
libkipi framework: kdegraphics, Digikam in F10:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
* The respins of kdegraphics-4.1.2 removed the updated libkipi framework which
is needed by the latest Digikam beta.
* If this won't be reverted upstream we'll have to use the older beta version
of digikam or or patch in the libkipi framework from kdegraphics' trunk.
kpackagekit status:
-----------------------------
*kpackagekit-0.1 was released on 29 Sep 2008 and should now provide the same
functionality as gnome-packagekit. [4]
* kpackagekit will be added to kde-desktop group in comps as default to get
some testing.
* At this time there were no conclusion about replacing gnome-packagekit also
on the live media.
* Packages for F9 could be provided when PackageKit-0.3 is available as an
update.
knetworkmanager status:
------------------------------------
* The latest svn version of knetworkmanager in Rawhide is now able to build
and is at least basically working.
* Though, it won't be installed by default and @kde-desktop will still use
Networkmanager-gnome as default
* But the release notes for F10 will mention the existence of knetworkmanager
as a technology preview.
F-10/kde artwork, theme:
-------------------------------------
* We'll need at least a KDM theme and a KSplash for the Artwork of Fedora 10.
* KushalDas is working on a KDM theme based on SamueleStorari's mockup.
* SamueleStorari will also provide a mockup for KSplash.

kdepim updates "pushed to stable" according to Bodhi, but tag not moved?
by Kevin Kofler
Hi,
Bodhi claims the following updates (submitted by me) have been pushed to
stable:
kdepim-3.5.10-2.fc8
kdepim-3.5.10-2.fc9
Yet they are still in dist-f8-updates-candidate resp. dist-f9-updates-candidate
and thus do not show up in the repo. So what's up with these? Aren't the tag
moves supposed to happen _before_ Bodhi says the update got pushed?

serial console config
by Jon Masters
Hi folks,
What's the recommended way to configure a serial console in Fedora 9
with upstart? /etc/event.d/serial requires some fedora-centric event to
be emitted but I'm not sure where this is supposed to be generated.
<aside> time was, you could just setup a serial console in 3 seconds, I
guess I'm pining for the good old days...or some documentation.

rpmbuild post install checks
by Steve Grubb
Hi,
I have tarred up my post install build checks that found the /bin /sbin linked
to /usr problems. It can be downloaded from:
http://people.redhat.com/sgrubb/files/rpmbuild-checks.tar.gz
The tarball has installation instructions in the README file. If any test
fails, it stops the build and rpms are not written. I have about 10 checks
and would like to add more. I would also like to take any contributions that
can look for problems at build time. The intent is to find problems in local
builds before pushing it out to Koji for an official build.
Comments?

NetworkManager vs. sysconfig
by Jon Masters
Hi folks,
I just installed a test server running F9. For once, I let
NetworkManager run and left the install fairly alone. I statically
configured a set of network settings in anaconda and those are present
in the sysconfig network scripts. But NetworkManager decides it knows
better and reconfigures the interface with DHCP anyway[0].
How is static interface config supposed to work with NetworkManager?
Does this actually work in F9 today?
Jon.
[0] It actually does this even when you create a new "wired network" in
NetworkManager with the correct config (so now you have it in two
places) - it always wants to use its own "Auto eth0" regardless.

No X in F10 beta, rawhide...
by Petrus de Calguarium
I had installed F10 alpha on both of my computers and have been using it for a
while. All has been very good and I am very pleased with it.
This Wednesday morning I yum updated both systems. I noticed that there was a
new X server, version 1.5.1-4 among the many 100s of MB of downloads. Sadly,
there was an absence of the new Intel drivers that will enable the use of i915
modesetting with this great new X server. Oh well, it will come when it's
ready.
This evening, I booted my desktop computer and the computer locked up at the
point where plymouth ends and the X server starts to log in, via kdm. I could
not even change to another virtual terminal. There was nothing I could do but
Alt-SysRq.
I tried many times, using a slew of kernel options, like removing rhgb,
appending vga=0x318, using nomodeset and enforcing=0. All variations failed.
There was no way I could boot into X.
Then I tired the other computer. The same story. No X. Just a dark grey
screen.
I tried switching to gdm. I tried reverting to X server 1..5.1-2, which worked
just fine last night and this morning. I tried using the previous kernel. I
tried using a full xorg.conf instead of the minimal xorg.conf that has been
recommended recently (and worked great on both computers). I tried no
xorg.conf at all. Still no X.
The problem appears not to be selinux, the usual culprit, nor the new kernel,
nor the most recent X server. It is something else in this morning's spate of
updates.
I can telinit 3, but not startx. What to do?
(The only way I am even able to write this message at all is that I still have
Fedora 9 on a spare partition on the desktop computer. The laptop is now
useless.)

Strange repodata/other.xml issue...
by Dmitry Butskoy
Sometimes the changelog entries contain "<" and/or ">" symbols. For
example, a fragment of the changelog of "k3b" package:
> * Wed Oct 6 02:00:00 2004 Harald Hoyer <harald(a)redhat.com> 0:0.11.17-1
> - version 0.11.17
> - revert the dao -> tao change
> - add the suid feature to every app automatically
note the "->" in the line:
> - revert the dao -> tao change
When I create my local repodata ("cd somewhere; createrepo ."), the
correspond fragment appears in the "repodata/other.xml.gz" file, in the
form of:
> - revert the dao -> tao change
Then, when I update my repodata by "createrepo --update .", I receive an
error:
> Scanning old repo data
> Indexed 2997 base nodes
> Indexed 3001 filelist nodes
> /var/ftp/.4/fedora-8/fedora/i386/./repodata/other.xml.gz:118813:
> parser error : Detected an entity reference loop
> - revert the dao -> tao change
> ^

> mdgen.doPkgMetadata(directory)
> File "/usr/share/createrepo/genpkgmetadata.py", line 161, in

> basefile, flfile, otherfile, opts)
> File "/usr/share/createrepo/readMetadata.py", line 41, in __init__
> self.scan()
> File "/usr/share/createrepo/readMetadata.py", line 64, in scan
> root = libxml2.parseFile(self.files['other']).getRootElement()
> File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/libxml2.py", line 1279, in
> parseFile
> if ret is None:raise parserError('xmlParseFile() failed')
> libxml2.parserError: xmlParseFile() failed
IOW, the initial "full" createrepo run seems OK, the subsequent run with
"--update" is failed.
Any comments? Whether it is some bug in createrepo, or in some yum
components?
Regards,
Dmitry Butskoy
