bodhi 0.4.10 features
by Luke Macken
Some noteworthy features with the latest bodhi update:
- Security updates now require approval from the security team before
they hit stable. They are still able to go into testing in the mean time.
- Compliance with the new Security Bug Tracking Policy[0].
- Bugs will get set to ON_QA when your update hits updates-testing.
- Bugs will [optionally] get closed as CURRENTRELEASE once they are stable.
- New updates will automatically obsolete any older updates that are
pending/testing.
- Checksums are no longer displayed in update notices (Ticket #262)
- Metrics improvements and enhancements. Added a 'packages with best
karma' graph.
- ...and many more bug fixes & enhancements.
As always, please send all patches, bug reports, suggestions, and criticism to:

How to contact Jeff Ollie?
by Peter Lemenkov
Hello All!
Sorry for the buzz but I tried to contact Jeff via email, but seems
that he didn't noticed my mails (evil spam filter maybe?).
I need to ask him about his plans for the rtpproxy.

Joomla and Fedora
by Jos Vos
Hi,
Is there a technical and/or political reason why Joomla isn't
packaged for Fedora?
Or is it just that nobody has asked for it and/or nobody was
interested in packaging it?

nasm 2.01
by Petr Machata
Hi,
I've done a rebase of nasm to 2.01. It should hit rawhide shortly.
Packagers of packages that depend on nasm may consider rebuild, although
I believe it shouldn't be necessary. Feedback welcome.
Thanks,
PM

ppc64 with strange symptoms
by Michael Schwendt
ppc64 build once again failed while the other archs succeeded (I think
last time that happened I just submitted another build request). In the
modified abicheck test suite it gives different results for the same
check:
+ ../abicheck ./private1
./private1: OK
+ ../abicheck ./private1
./private1: NO_BINDINGS (run ldd -r on binary for more info)
+ :
+ ../abicheck ./private1
+ grep 'PRIVATE:.*libc.*\(__open\|__nanosleep\)'
./private1: PRIVATE: (libc.so.6:GLIBC_PRIVATE) __open_catalog
+ echo true
true
Only the last one is good. "private1" is a dynamically linked exe
built in the step before these tests.
abicheck is Perl and runs ldd/ld-linux to examine the exe.
It's hard to debug this without access to a rawhide ppc64 machine.
I'm going to use koji scratch builds (long response-times) to do a few
more tests. I hope to find out what early runs of ldd or ld-linux say
about the file.
Perhaps somebody has an idea meanwhile as what may be special about ppc64.

Request help with failing build: espeak
by Francois Aucamp
Hi,
The espeak-1.31-(2 to 4) builds failed on devel, although I've been unable to
consistently reproduce the problem locally using mock. For me, espeak builds
in mock on f8/i386, f8/x86_64 and devel/x86_64. Mock with devel/i386 gave a
similar error to koji, but the koji error consistently appears on the x86_64
arch:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=380879
The relevant part of the build log is:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.1.2/../../../../lib64/libportaudio.so:
undefined reference to `jack_port_lock'
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.1.2/../../../../lib64/libportaudio.so:
undefined reference to `jack_port_unlock'
Forced linking to libjack doesn't solve this (wouldn't make sense anyway
considering espeak itself is only linking to libportaudio (and this used to
work) ). Am I missing something silly? Or does portaudio need a rebuild?
ldd -r on the (mock) devel portaudio seems fine...
Thanks!

My presumption is that an entity where servers are
"difficult" ( SOHO, education ) also probably has a flat network
topology for this to work. My target was a rpm installation that
would enable this, so anyone could set it up without much other
intervention. Shoot, it might work if you had several Fedora users at
the same Starbucks.
> Would there still be a
> way to explicitly provide the dns name or IP address of the server in

I thought about that a little bit.
If there was a server on the same subnet, it could use the same
discovery and retrieve any rpms it didn't have from the various
client nodes. That way as nodes appeared and disappeared from the
network, there would be some stability of the cached rpms available.
You could make that server the default repo in yum.repos.d, so that
if the mdns-avahi-Bonjour thingy didn't work or wasn't installed on a
node, yum would have a fallback to a "regular" repo that had many
cached files.
If the network had subnets etc., then the client nodes would have to
"phone home" to a server giving the server a list of its cached rpms
because the server would not be able to discover all client nodes.
The server could then compare the list on the client node with its
own list and retrieve any it was missing. A scheduled rsync from the
client to the server might work too. That same cron script could dump
the client cache because those rpms would still be available on the
local network from the server it pushed them to.
Integrating a server into this idea was secondary from my point of
view. There's a bit of work just to get the clients talking to each
other, at least with my skill set.
