With this glibc, gdm seems to hang. Once a cursor appears,
it never proceeds. Reverting to -15 seems okay.

RTC/RTC0 issues
by Trever L. Adams
I have the latest kernel I believe. This issue with rtc existing and
/sbin/clock not being able to access it (because it should be a symlink
to rtc0, or have the same device number as rt0) still exists.
Am I the only one still seeing this?

gnome keyring problems
by Thomas J. Baker
The auto unlocking gnome keyring stuff is not working well for me. I get
prompted every time I start evolution for the 'default' keyring password
with the option of automatically unlocking it at login, which I always
check. Half of my passwords are stored in the 'default' keyring and half
are in the 'login' keyring. Assuming that a bold name in
gnome-keyring-manager denotes what it thinks is the default keyring,
then the login keyring is the default one. I get prompted for the
password to the 'default' keyring which then means the one named
default, and I also get prompted for the default keyring, which ends up
being the login one. The only difference in the prompting dialogs is the
quoting.
The password to the login keyring is the same as my unix one. The
password to my default keyring is different. Do all three need to be the
same to work? Also, is this supposed to work for an NIS setup? My laptop
is a local account but my work one is NIS. The auto unlocking keyring
stuff doesn't work anywhere.
I don't know if some of this is related to the fact that you still can't
log out correctly so things may not get saved.

pm-utils ping-pong upgrade/downgrade problem in F7
by Ville Skyttä
Hello,
pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7 and pm-utils-0.99.4-3.fc7 have a ping-pong
upgrade/downgrade problem which bites smart: pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7 obsoletes
(unversioned!) radeontool and vbetool, pm-utils-0.99.4-3.fc7 requires them
(unversioned too), resulting in:
# rpm -q pm-utils radeontool vbetool
pm-utils-0.99.4-3.fc7.x86_64
radeontool-1.5-2.fc7.x86_64
vbetool-0.7-2.fc7.x86_64
# smart upgrade
[...]
Upgrading packages (1):
pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7@x86_64
Downgrading packages (1):
pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7@x86_64
Here smart decides to downgrade to pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7 because it sees it
obsoletes the installed radeontool and vbetool versions. Once the downgrade
is done, vbetool and radeontool are gone too. The "Upgrading packages"
message looks like a smart bug, ditto the fact that it doesn't say beforehand
that it's going to remove radeontool and vbetool. Anyway, after that
transaction:
# smart upgrade
[...]
Upgrading packages (1):
pm-utils-0.99.4-3.fc7@x86_64
Downgrading packages (2):
radeontool-1.5-2.fc7@x86_64 vbetool-0.7-2.fc7@x86_64
Ok, back we go to 0.99.4-3.fc7, and get radeontool and vbetool back too.
After that, again:
# smart upgrade
[...]
Upgrading packages (1):
pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7@x86_64
Downgrading packages (1):
pm-utils-0.99.3-6.fc7@x86_64
Etc etc. Duh. yum does not appear to be affected by this. I suppose this
could be argued to be a bug either in smart or yum (I don't have that strong
opinions about which one it is although yum behaves in the desired way in
this particular case), but it once again provides one example why unversioned
Obsoletes and Provides are bad (which is why I'm posting here instead of
reporting this to Bugzilla).
I'm not sure about this and haven't tested, but I guess adding
Obsoletes: pm-utils < %{version}-%{release}
to the new pm-utils could help smart get over it. Thoughts?

Fedora Live CD unwritable on CDs
by Michał Bentkowski
Hi!
My friend noticed an oddity after trying to burn his
Fedora-7-Live-x86_64.iso. Its size is 779M and it was impossible to
write it on CD. He had to burn CD-image on DVD and this shouldn't be
the thing we expect. Some people probably still don't own any
DVD-reader and if they have x86_64 processor, they won't be able to
install the distro.
So my question is: why x86_64 and ppc live CDs are greater than CDs?
How can users burn them? Are we doing anything to make these images
smaller?
Thanks.

raid456
by Curtis Doty
Am I the only one noticing that the raid456 module and all its deps are
getting dragged in when only raid1 is desired?
# lsmod |grep raid456
raid456 120937 0
async_xor 7233 1 raid456
async_memcpy 6209 1 raid456
async_tx 9793 3 raid456,async_xor,async_memcpy
xor 17737 2 raid456,async_xor
# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
md0 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdc1[2](S) sdb1[1]
64128 blocks [2/2] [UU]
md1 : active raid1 sda2[0] sdb2[1]
10490368 blocks [2/2] [UU]
I see that it was added to mkinitrd for recovery scenarios. Which is fine.
But does it *always* need to be loaded?
