To expand a little more: all the jpp packaging of closed jvm does is
moving files to standardised places and/or symlinking them there. So
file layout is the alpha and omega of what you need to know.
(Plus some virtual provides and font stuff that's better forgotten,
because the legacy core font backend proprietary java uses is just
plain inadequate for current needs.)

clamav-0.91.2-2.fc7 update stuck
by Bojan Smojver
Looks like we have a problem with this package being stuck in pending.
Could someone with enough privilege push this to stable updates? It is a
security related release.

Spins and other development issues
by Trever L. Adams
I am wanting to develop some RPM packages that hopefully will eventually
become part of Fedora. For the time being I would like to make them,
publish them and possibly make Spins based on them.
I am wondering what build tools, spec file editing tools, and spin tools
there are. I will be using git, which may or may not be an issue.
I am looking for tools that are automatic (like a build tree tool) and
that will help do the process (spec and spin tools).
Thank you,
Trever Adams

Services automaticly change firewall rules to open access to themselfs.
by "Jóhann B. Guðmundsson"
Any thoughts on implementing automatically port opening for service
that need to open port access in the firewall
as in when service is started that needs port opening it would
automatically read some firewall.conf
file for that and open the port automatically according to those
settings in the firewall.conf file
( add the iptables rules automatically when the service is started and
remove those rules when the service is stopped )
Doing chkconfig service or service service start/stop and it would also
open the port for that service in the firewall
Thoughts anyone.

Classifying Packages By Priority
by Richi Plana
Hi,
Is there work or a proposal on incorporating Priority (TRIVIAL,
FEATURE_ENHANCEMENT, BUGFIX, SECURITY, etc.) meta-info into RPM
packages? Then it would be a simple thing to do "yum update
--priority=SECURITY|BUGFIX". The "Priority" here would of course mean
the incremental difference between it and some prior package version.
I was just reminded of the old days when I used to administer Solaris
boxes and would be so conservative with changes that only Security type
of patches would be applied.
