pxe
by Martin Papadopoulos
hello,
since the early dev phases of f7 , no single vmlinuz version is bootable
via pxe.
boot the pxe vmlinuz provided always leeds to "invalid or corrupt kernel
image"
it's really bugging since nowadays pxe and kickstart are common
infrastructure methods for deployment :-(

desktop-file-install question
by Neal Becker
I'm planning an update for kdiff3.
The current package has:
desktop-file-install --vendor fedora \
--dir $RPM_BUILD_ROOT%{_datadir}/applications \
--add-category Development \
--add-category X-Fedora \
--delete-original \
$RPM_BUILD_ROOT%{_datadir}/applnk/Development/kdiff3.desktop
The new kdiff3 release adds another:
/usr/share/applnk/.hidden/kdiff3plugin.desktop
Where/how should this be installed?

Plan for tomorrows (20070531) FESCO meeting
by Brian Pepple
Hi,
Please find below the list of topics that are likely to come up in the
next FESCo meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday at 17:00 UTC
in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.org:
/topic FESCO-Meeting -- MISC -- Package Database - abadger1999
/topic FESCO-Meeting -- MISC -- F7
/topic FESCO-Meeting -- linking ipsvd statically against dietlibc --
requested by Patrice Dumas -
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-maintainers/2007-May/msg00980.html
/topic FESCO-Meeting -- statically link libgcrypt into gaim-otr --
requested by Paul Wouters -
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-extras-list/2007-February/msg00425....
/topic FESCO-Meeting -- MISC -- Broken Upgrades paths - jwb
/topic FESCO-Meeting -- MISC -- Policies that need updating for merge?
/topic FESCo meeting -- Free discussion around Fedora
You want something to be discussed? Send a note to the list in reply to
this mail and I'll add it to the schedule (I can't promise we will get
to it tomorrow, but we'll most likely will if we don't run out of time).
You can also propose topics in the meeting while it is in the "Free
discussion around Fedora" phase.
If your name/nick is on above list please update the status on the
Extras schedule pages in the wiki ahead of the meeting. That way all the
other FESCo members and interested contributors know what up ahead of
the meeting. And we will avoid long delays in the meeting -- those often
arise if someone describes the recent happenings on a topic directly in
the meeting while all the others have to wait for his slow typing...
Thanks,
/B

SuperSavage/IXC 64 woes
by Joachim Frieben
With the transition from "Xorg 7.0" to "Xorg 7.1" some time last year, direct rendering with the "SuperSavage/IXC 64" chip which is typically encountered in "IBM ThinkPad T23" notebooks caught some serious issues, such as "glxgears" showing a black window and causing high system load as well as some "GL" screensavers blocking the display. Associated bugs are:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=195851
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=229979
At the time of the transition to "Xorg 7.2" and driver version 2.1.2, "DRM" got completely broken, leading to a "libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer
failed" and "direct rendering: No". For the old driver version 2.1.1, I had submitted a patch at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=136548
which applies to "FC6" but never made its way into an updated driver package. For the new driver 2.1.2 present in "F7", one has to build "drm.ko" and "savage.ko" from the "freedesktop.org" development tree in order to recover working hardware rendering.
Are there still some other "T23" users out there who face the same problems and are unsatisfied with the attention that the "savage" driver receives? The "T23" used to be quite popular and still competes well with current models. It might be useful to manifest your interest by replying to this post or submitting your comments to the relevant bug reports. Thanks!

I tried also:
pm-suspend --quirk-vbe-post --quirk-vbemode-restore
same issue; freezes on resume

when I push the poweroff button or I run poweroff, the system start the
shutdown procedure, but when the system is Off, after 2 or 3 seconds it
restart! .. and when it is active, some USB device not work property.
Then in order for poweroff machine and do work USB device, i must
remove the power cable when the system is shutdown!!....
If I install on this server FC5 all work great.
There is a solution to this problem of FC6?
I have also install on this HP system F7rc2: with this version of Fedora
all work fine, but the poweroff via Button Press not work, I have see
witch acpid is not installed by default and there is run a new (for me)
process called
"hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpi kernel interface /proc/acpi/event"
Is this process that it would have to be taken care to poweroff the
system? why do not do it?
Thank for your reply.

trouble using mock on FC6-x86_64 to build an i386 rpm for FC6
by Eric Smith
I'm trying to package drawtiming to submit for review.
I've got it building properly with mock and passing rpmlint on
FC6 x86-64. I'd tried building an i386 RPM using the command
mock --autocache -r fedora-6-i386-core rebuild drawtiming-0.5-3.src.rpm
(I tried that with and without a "--arch=i386" on the command line, as I
wasn't sure if that would be necessary.)
It fails with a message from configure:
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C
compiler cannot create executables
The config.log says:
configure:2093: checking for C compiler default output file name
configure:2096: gcc -O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2
-fexceptions -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m32
-march=i386 -mtune=generic -fasynchronous-unwind-tables conftest.c
>&5
/usr/bin/ld: crt1.o: No such file: No such file or directory
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
I set up mock on an FC6 i386 system, and was able to build it there
without getting that error. If it builds on that, what's different
that keeps it from building with mock for the i386 on the x86_64
system? Is there something else I need to do to make this work?
Thanks,
Eric
