F7T4 - sendmail & sm-client hang at boot
by Pat Kane
Just installed F7T4 on my workstation, the sendmail and sm-client hangs
(60 sec timeout?) are back.
I think I worked around the problem on FC6 by hiding the
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S80sendmail
script, that works okay for me since I have no use for sendmail.
Is there a better fix?

KDE alpha 1 packages for Fedora?
by jos poortvliet
Dear people,
In a few days KDE 4 alpha 1 will be released, and we would like to give as
many people as possible the opportunity to have a look at the next
generation Linux Desktop. Thus an article is being prepared to explain to
people how they can obtain KDE 4 Alpha 1 packages. A suse livecd already
exists, and packages will be available for Suse, Ubuntu, Debian and OS X,
but we haven't heard from the Fedora community yet. So, as to ensure the
article will be reasonable complete, we'd like to inquire if Fedora will
have Alpha 1 packages available to it's users.
We thank you for any comments on this matter.
Greetings,
Jos Poortvliet
(KDE-nl)
ps please reply to me as well, as I'm not (yet) subscribed to the
fedora-marketing list (and I hope this message gets through moderation)

Fedora Core 5 end of life is 2007-06-29
by Max Spevack
All,
Several months ago, the Fedora Board (in consultation with Red Hat
Engineering) decided to increase the length of time that Fedora releases
are supported, in terms of updates.
This decision was retroactively applied to Fedora Core 5, allowing it to
remain a fully maintained release for several months longer than it would
have under our old policy.
Fedora 7 will be released on Thursday May 24th, 2007.
Fedora Core 5 will reach its End of Life for updates on Friday June 29th,
2007.
In total, Fedora Core 5 will have had a lifespan of 15 months. For the
sake of comparison, under the old policy, FC5 would have only had a
lifespan of 11 months.
===
Zod insists that Fedora Core 6 receive updates until about one month after
the release of Fedora 8.
Fedora 7 will receive updates until about one month after the release of
Fedora 9.
And so on. "Fedora X will receive updates until about one month after the
release of Fedora X+2."

F7T4 - audio problem
by Pat Kane
Sometimes after a reboot my audio does not work, when KDE
has almost finished with my login, I get a dialog with a message
like this:
Informational - arts message
Sound server informational message:
Error while initalizing sound
device: default can't be opened for playback
(No such file or directory)
The workaround is to go into the BIOS setup screen while
booting and then back out to continue booting Linux. A simple
reboot does not fix the problem. I also had this problem on FC6.
I will attach two dmesg logs, one for the broken audio
and a second for when the audio is okay.
Any clues?

Error messages with e1000 driver in Fedora 7 test 4 KDE live CD
by Davide Bolcioni
Greetings,
I would like to report the following messages which I spotted on bootup and
shutdown of the Live CD on an x86_64 host - fairly frequent but not 100%
reproducible:
On network shutdown
e1000_reset: hardware error
On network startup
Unable to allocate NMI interrupt error -22
The card is reported as
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566DM Gigabit Network
Connection (rev 02)
the network is however functional. I used to have similar errors on Fedora
Core 6 until I disabled HAL, which sometimes died with a backtrace on boot.
Thank you for your consideration,
Davide Bolcioni
