Kernel 2.6.17 RPM builds
by Michael Cronenworth
Why are the people in charge of the kernel RPM making seperate RPMs for
non-SMP and SMP?
The main feature in 2.6.17 is the autodetection of such CPUs! This should
reduce it to just one package and could enable the use of one kernel
package across multiple machine configurations.

kernel 2.6.17.1 does not boot on HP dc7600U
by Barry Scott
I picked up the Fedora testing source RPM for kernel 2.6.17 and built it.
When it boots these messages appear:
On my HP dc7600U the last messages printed are:
PCI: BUIS Bug: MCFG area is not E820-reserved
PCI: Not using MMCONFIG
The attached patch created by Chuck Ebbert on the
Linux Kernel dev list on 15/06/06 09:41 fixes the problem.

yum update wants to install multiple arch versions of each package
by David Nielsen
I did a clean install of FC6t1 on my amd64 system and when I wanted to
update to the latest Development I noticed that yum had gotten an urge
to install the same application in both i386 and x86_64.
Why would I e.g. want Evolution twice (one could debate why I would want
Evolution at all).

FC5 Xen crash
by philip
Hi,
I wasn't sure where the appropriate place is to send the info below. I hope this list is OK.
I have just started using Xen. I tried to install the latest level on
an available desktop and received the following kernel error.
Is there something I can specify to get past this? I thought I found info indicating this CPU is supported.
thanx,
philip

LD_PRELOAD in mixed x86,x86_64 environment?
by Neal Becker
It appears that in an x86_64 environment, that LD_PRELOAD rejects 32-bit
binaries? Even though the executable will be 32-bit.
Is this true, and if so, is there a workaround? Should there be?
