Fedora Core package cleanup project
by Will Woods
I'm announcing the start of a new QA project, and I'm asking for your
help.
In the past, Core packages have not been held to the same standards as
Extras. We want to fix this! We're starting by cleaning up the spec
files so that Core packages can all be built using Mock. (If you aren't
familiar with Mock, it's a cool RPM build tool that we use to build
Fedora Extras.)
This is where you come in: We need people to attempt Mock builds of
Fedora Core packages, and file bugs when they find packages that don't
build.
Doing so will earn you the thanks and respect of your peers, but as an
added incentive we're going to give away free stuff (!) to people who
help out.
Filing a bug on a broken package will earn you one Karma Point. If you
include a patch that makes that package build successfully, you'll get
five Karma Points. These will be redeemable for cool stuff from the Red
Hat Cool Stuff Store (at an exchange rate to be determined once we
figure out how much stuff we're actually allowed to give away :)
For more info, check out:

Ok? OK! Let's get testin'!

Development push delayed tonight
by Jesse Keating
The automated development push has been disabled for tonight (tomorrow
morning). This is so that I can push it by hand and introduce the new
layout. Specifically so that I can fix things if they break when
pushing the new layout.
Target arrival of the development tree on the mirrors is 11:00am Eastern

python(abi) present, but blocking rpm -i
by Janina Sajka
I've built an rpm with a build dependency on python => 2.4. The
buildrequires is explicitly stated in the .spec, and the build proceeds
uneventfully. However, I cannot install the resulting rpm--on the very
machine where I built it. The message
is "requires python(abi)." Meanwhile:
rpm -q --whatprovides "python(abi)"
returns "python-2.4.2-3.2.1," which is installed.
How can this be? Is this an rpm problem? A python problem? Or some kind
of problem with my package source?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
PS: The package is a new Gnome screen reader called Orcaunder active
development by Sun.

FC5 Xen latest updates
by Harry Hoffman
Hi,
Just installed FC5 w/Xen on a new box. After install I reboot and do a
xm list and can see dom0.
I run yum update and xend can no longer start. I've tried disabling
SELINUX but to no avail.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Harry

Where to start with making a device driver
by Arthur Pemberton
I have just purchased a Royal ezVue5 PDA (I don't exactly think it
deserves the genre of PDA, but oh well) just for the sole purpose of
writing a driver for it to connect to it LInux side via USB. Of
course, it comes with a CD for Windows drivers. But.. not exactly a
Windows person. I know some C++, and I am learning more (CS major). I
prefer python, but would exactly say that I am better in it. I learned
to code in Pascal/Delphi.
So what I want to ask of this is where do I start? What do I read up
on? What do I need, etc. I have been bored lately (waiting to get
accepted to G-SOC) and this is the only interesting coding project
that I could think of.
Please advise.
Arthur Pemberton
BTW, if there is a better list for this, point me there. Just that
Fedora is my distro of choice.
