AC_PATH_XTRA vs modular xorg
by Toshio Kuratomi
Does AC_PATH_XTRA (an autoconf macro used in configure.ac to figure out
X library and include paths) cause problems with modular xorg? From the
autoconf info page it looks like it uses xmkmf to work its magic. Is
this information current? If so, this would leave me with several
options:
1) BuildRequire: imake This will bring in xmkmf so that AC_PATH_XTRA
will work. Since xmkmf and imake are on the way out and pkgconfig is on
the way in, this doesn't seem like the right thing to do.
2) In the package's spec, use:
%configure --x-includes/x-libraries=<pkg-config output>
This seems to be driving in the right direction but isn't suitable for
sending upstream.
3) Modify the configure.ac to use pkg-config. In order to go upstream,
this would need some sort of conditional in order to do a traditional
AC_PATH_X type check in case of older X releases.
Have other people run into this type of problem in their packages yet?
Any pointers to a better way of handling it?

/usr/bin/gcj-dbtool problem
by Erwin Rol
Hey all,
For a while i have the the problem that /usr/bin/gcj-dbtool hangs until
i kill it. This is a problem because most java packages use it in their
%pre and %post script, and so all installs (and updates) of java
programs like eclipse and openoffice hang.
After removing all java stuff and reinstalling I think i found the cause
of the problem, or atleast the RPM that causes the problem.
Before installing eclipse-cdt i can run /usr/bin/rebuild-gcj-db (this
calls gcj-dbtool in the end) without a problem. After I install
eclipse-cdt /usr/bin/rebuild-gcj-db will hang and ps ax will show the
following.
14594 pts/0 S+ 0:00 /bin/bash /usr/bin/rebuild-gcj-db
14614 pts/0 S+ 0:00 xargs -0 /usr/bin/gcj-dbtool -m /usr/lib64/gcj-4.1.0/classmap.db /usr/lib64/gcj-4.1.0/classmap.db
14615 pts/0 Sl+ 0:00 /usr/bin/gcj-dbtool -m /usr/lib64/gcj-4.1.0/classmap.db /usr/lib64/gcj-4.1.0/classmap.db /usr/lib64/gcj/eclipse-cdt/cdtmakeui.jar.db /usr/lib64/gcj/eclipse-cdt/cdtmicore.1
The yum install/update will hang untill i do "kill 14615", than it
continues like this
Running Transaction
Installing: eclipse-cdt ######################### [1/1]
xargs: /usr/bin/gcj-dbtool: terminated by signal 15
Installed: eclipse-cdt.x86_64 1:3.0.1-1jpp_3fc
Complete!
>From now on every packages that uses /usr/bin/rebuild-gcj-db will hang
yum/rpm when it is being installed or uninstalled.
Removing the eclipse-cdt rpm fixes the problem again.

Question about Fedora Extras 5
by Zoltan Boszormenyi
Hi,
will there be a CD series or DVD distribution of Fedora Extras 5, too?
E.g. after installing final Core 5, Anaconda or firstboot may offer a choice
about "Install Extra CDs".
I just installed RHEL3 on a machine at my workplace, it had this option.
Best regards,
Zoltán Böszörményi

openldap-2.3.19-2
-----------------
* Tue Jan 10 2006 Jay Fenlason <fenlason(a)redhat.com> 2.3.19-2
- Upgrade to 2.3.19, which upstream now considers stable
- Modify the -config.patch, ldap.init, and this spec file to put the
pid file and args file in an ldap-owned openldap subdirectory under
/var/run.
- Move back_sql* out of /usr/sbin/openldap , which requires
hand-moving slapd and slurpd to _sbindir, and recreating symlinks
by hand.
- Retire openldap-2.3.11-ads.patch, which went upstream.
- Update the ldap.init script to run slaptest as the ldap user rather
than as root. This solves
bz#150172 Startup failure after database problem
- Add to the servers post and preun scriptlets so that on preun, the
database is slapcatted to /var/lib/ldap/upgrade.ldif and the
database files are saved to /var/lib/ldap/rpmorig. On post, if
/var/lib/ldap/upgrade.ldif exists, it is slapadded. This means that
on upgrades from 2.3.16-2 to higher versions, the database files may
be automatically upgraded. Unfortunatly, because of the changes to
the preun scriptlet, users have to do the slapcat, etc by hand when
upgrading to 2.3.16-2. Also note that the /var/lib/ldap/rpmorig
files need to be removed by hand because automatically removing your
emergency fallback files is a bad idea.
- Upgrade internal bdb to db-4.4.20. For a clean upgrade, this will
require that users slapcat their databases into a temp file, move
/var/lib/ldap someplace safe, upgrade the openldap rpms, then
slapadd the temp file.

work.
- make pydm_map_compare() compare names _last_, so we can compare a map
that's been renamed with its earlier instantiations correctly.
- mark a device as degraded if there's any descrepancy at all between
the number of members we find vs what we expect

I'm pretty sure it's a kernel problem. It has never been reported on
any system except Feodra, and replacing kernel 2.6.15-1.1869_FC5 with
vanilla 2.6.15 (build with fedora .config) seems to fix it.

kernel: broken qla support
by Kłoczko Tomasz
More than few kernel package version ago was broken support for all Qlogic
cards. This ahppens because someone was disable all CONFIG_SCSI_QLA* in
.config.
[root@boss boot]# diff -u config-2.6.14-1.1773_FC5 config-2.6.15-1.1884_FC5 | grep QLA
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA2XXX=m
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA21XX=m
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA22XX=m
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA2300=m
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA2322=m
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA6312=m
-CONFIG_SCSI_QLA24XX=m
+CONFIG_SCSI_QLA_FC=m
+# CONFIG_SCSI_QLA2XXX_EMBEDDED_FIRMWARE is not set
On my system without loading qla2300 isn't possible scan avalaible LUNs.

Make hardlinking kernel-devel optional
by Ralf Ertzinger
Hi.
I't like to request to make the hardlink stage kernel-devel does on every
install optional. It takes a damn lot of time on my not-too-fast machines,
I do not exactly care about the saved disk space, and given the rate of
kernel changes in rawhide there are a lot of wasted CPU cycles there.
There is a /etc/sysconfig/kernel, how about dropping a "HARDLINK=yes/no"
there?

Kernel issues
by Trever L. Adams
During the FC4 development cycle I mistakenly asked for 2.6.12 to be
included because it "had" the ip_conntrack for ipv6. This was based on
something I read. It turns out the person was misquoting. The USAGI
project was promising this for a patch for 2.6.12. It was never included
at least to my knowledge.
My wish list for FC5 includes the following:
TARPIT target for IPTABLES (I think it is already included).
connlimit (and friends) matching for the kernel, this exists in
documentation but has not yet made the mainstream kernel. Help should be
given to get it there and it should be included.
ip6_conntrack (or whatever it's name is) should be given similar help
and should be included.
Other than that, most of my wishes are ready being addressed. I do think
these are very important for both desktop and server/firewall machines.
Thank you,
Trever Adams

Mock works on i386, does nothing in x86_64.
by Gilboa Davara
Hello All,
I'm trying to get a x86_64 mock setup working for both FC4/5 and
CentOS4.
I've downloaded the latest mock src.rpm package, rebuilt it for
FC4/x86_64 and installed it.
If /etc/mock/default.cfrg points to the i386 configuration, mock init
works just fine.
If it points to the x86_64 configuration, mock init does nothing.
[] $ mock --debug init
DEBUG: ensuring dir /var/lib/mock/fedora-4-x86_64-core/state
[] $
Any ideas?
Gilboa
