Valgrind + Python: __strcpy_chk warning in PyImport_ImportModuleEx
by Ivan Gyurdiev
Can someone suggest the cause of this warning?
Should I file a bug? Against python or glibc?
This is python code being valgrind-ed on x86_64.
The suppressions file here:
http://svn.python.org/projects/python/trunk/Misc/
is installed, and additional suppressions for Memcheck:Value8 and
Memcheck:Addr8
have been added in PyObject_Free and PyObject_Realloc.
As a side node, why is this suppressions file not installed by default?

That doesn't show a lot of knowledge on your institutions part though ;(
KDE blacklisted that gcc for ONE bug, a bug fixed in the RH rpms
already.

Sessions and how to get rid of the RHN alert icon
by Ivan Gyurdiev
I've heard this argument many times: "Windows starts up faster, then
takes too long to load the systray applets, hence Linux is faster
". I haven't used Windows in a while, but my Linux experience is not
very positive when it comes to applets - GNOME takes a long time to load
them, and until they're all loaded the panel is unusable. Since all my
startup icons are on the panel, I can't launch any applications. How is
this any different?
I blame the RHN alert icon. I don't know if it's the root of the
problem, but I use rawhide, and I don't need an alert icon anyway. So,
I'd like to get rid of it. However, it keeps coming back. If you click
on Configuration -> Forward -> Remove from Panel, it disappears, but
keeps coming back on every login. The same thing happens if you remove
it from the Current Session.
There used to be a checkbox "Save Session" on the Log Out button, but I
don't see it anymore. How do I get rid of the icon, and save the
session, so that it doesn't come back?

Java bug status
by Erwin Rol
What is the status of this highly annoying bug that prevents about every
java application from working ?
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=179228
The priority of this bug is just "normal" but since it breaks a lot of
software (and if it is a kernel issue, it breaks maybe even more than
just the java software) shouldn't its priority be "high" ?

May I ask what the change is, and how it affects stuff? ABI changes in C
are scary...
