bad gdm dependency
by Jason Dravet
When updating gdm from todays rawhide I get the following:
/etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts: line 1313 has invalid
context system_u:object_r:newrole_exec_t
error: Failed dependencies:
redhat-artwork >= 0:0.129-20 is needed by gdm-2.8.0.4-6.i386
Just an FYI,

NVIDIA Raid Drivers for Fedora Core 4
by Michael J. Pawlowsky
I have a ASUS K8N-DL Motherboard with a NVIDIA RAID controller on it.
Although I can create the Raids using the tool at bootup (After the bios
loads), Fedora Core 4 Installation sees the drives as 4 seperate drives
and not 2 RAID drives.
Has anyone been able to get the NVIDIA Raid Controllers to work in Core 4?
Thanks,
Mike

Fedora web team
by Elliot Lee
Hey all,
It seems like there are at least a few people who are interested in
reworking the Fedora web site. I think it would be good to have more
coordination on our efforts. So, please visit:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora/Web
and let's all get together and figure things out.
This may just be my way of catching up with everyone else who is already
working nicely together - please bring me up to speed. :)

Rawhide issue with fontconfig
by Emmanuel Briot
I have recently updated fontconfig (now version 2.3.91.cvs20051017-1). I
had a duplicate on my system with fontconfig-2.3.2-1 (not removed when
doing the update).
I therefore removed the second one, and when running fc-cache, I get the
following error:
Fontconfig error: "conf.d", line 1: no element found
From what I could see, the issue comes from /etc/fonts/fonts.conf,
which contains the line:
<include ignore_missing="yes">conf.d</include>
since conf.d is in fact a subdirectory, this is of course incorrect.
Commenting out that line removes the error.
I have tried to replace the line with
<include ignore_missing="yes">conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">conf.d/50-no-hint-fonts.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">conf.d/autohint.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">no-bitmaps.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">no-sub-pixel.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">sub-pixel.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">unhinted.conf</include>
<include ignore_missing="yes">yes-bitmaps.conf</include>
but in fact the first one contains unknown tags:
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 7: unknown
element "selectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 8: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 9: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 10: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 11: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 12: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 13: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 14: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 15: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 16: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 17: unknown
element "rejectfont"
Fontconfig warning: "conf.d/40-blacklist-fonts.conf", line 18: unknown
element "rejectfont"
and no-sub-pixel.conf and sub-pixel.conf seem to conflict with each
other, so I am not sure what the real intent is here.
I will simply remove the conf.d line since the system seems to work
correctly without it

----------------
* Tue Oct 18 2005 Jason Vas Dias <jvdias(a)redhat.com> - 11:3.0.3-10
- Allow dhclient route metrics to be specified with DHCP options:
The dhcp-options(5) man-page states:
'option routers ... Routers should be listed in order of preference'
and
'option static-routes ... are listed in descending order of priority' .
No preference / priority could be set with previous dhclient-script .
Now, dhclient-script provides:
Default Gateway (option 'routers') metrics:
Instead of allowing only one default gateway, if more than one router
is specified in the routers option, routers following the first router
will have a 'metric' of their position in the list (1,...N>1).
Option static-routes metrics:
If a target appears in the list more than once, routes for duplicate
targets will have successively greater metrics, starting at 1.

- further fix for bug 160655 / ISC bug 15293 - upstream patch:
do NOT always strip trailing nulls in the dhcpd server
- handle static-routes option properly in dhclient-script :
trailing 0 octets in the 'target' IP specify the class -
ie '172.16.0.0 w.x.y.z' specifies '172.16/16 via w.x.y.z'.

[Fwd: [ANNOUNCE] X11R6.9/X11R7 Release Candidate 1 ready for testing]
by Bernardo Innocenti
Is anyone packaging RPMs for FC5 already?
Is R7.0 planned for FC5 core?

Subject: [ANNOUNCE] X11R6.9/X11R7 Release Candidate 1 ready for testing
We are pleased to announce the availability of the first full Release
Candidate (RC1) for the upcoming X.Org Foundation release of X11R6.9 and
X11R7. This release marks the completion of the development cycle for
the modular source tree. We have tagged both the monolithic and modular
trees and have prepared tarballs for you to test.
The X11R6.9-RC1 tarball was created from the traditional monolithic
source tree and can be found here:
http://xorg.freedesktop.org/releases/X11R6.9-RC1/
X11R7-RC1 is based on the new modularized source tree and as such there
are individual tarballs for each module component in the tree. The set
of tarballs can be found here:
http://xorg.freedesktop.org/releases/X11R7.0-RC1/
Now that RC1 has been completed, we are moving into the testing and bug
fixing phase. We ask that you please test _both_ the modular and
monolithic trees. If you find any problems, please file bugs in fdo's
bugzilla (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg) and
mark them as blockers of the release bug (see below) so that they can be
tracked. Also, we encourage you to discuss any issues you encounter on
this mailing list.
For those looking for known issues to work on, please see the list of
current blocker bugs on the release bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1690
For those looking for some ideas on how to test the release, please see
the following message:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2005-July/008552.html
In addition to running the test suite, we also encourage you to test
your standard desktop and any applications you use (including OpenGL
apps) on various graphics cards and hardware platforms. We would like
to hear about both successes and failures.
The plan is that by the time we reach RC2, we will have either fixed all
of the blocker bugs or determined that they are not fixable during this
release cycle.
Until we tag RC2, anyone is allowed to check in bug fixes. Once we tag
RC2, however, getting patches included will require approval of the
release managers, so if you have bug fixes that you would like to see
included in the release, please check them in ASAP.
Also, note that the tree is closed for new features. If you have any
questions about whether a particular patch would be considered a bug fix
or a feature, ask one of the release managers to review the patch.
Lastly, since the modular development cycle has now been completed, we
can return to our original timetable. We have updated the schedule on
the release plan page (http://wiki.x.org/wiki/X11R6970ReleasePlan) as
shown here:
4 Jul 2005: Feature freeze for the monolithic source tree
1 Aug 2005: RC0 (Release Candidate 0)
18 Oct 2005: RC1 (Full release candidate)
9 Nov 2005: RC2 (Code Freeze)
30 Nov 2005: RCfinal
7 Dec 2005: X11R6.9/X11R7 Release
This gives us three full weeks to test this release and fix bugs before
RC2, so please test early and often!
Thank you for your help with making this a successful release!

Proposed Development Areas for Fedora Core 5 and Fedora Project
by Josep Puigdemont
I'm reading a suggestion in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FC5Future
for trimming down core:
"All stuff for personal install and the support for the six main
languages (en,de,fr,es,??) on the first two CDs. Big stuff like
openoffice-lang-support for uncommon langages only in extras?"
That's a bad joke, right?
/Josep (an uncommon language speaker)
P.S.: <nitpick>Don't know who wrote that, but neither French nor German
are in the top 6 most spoken languages (Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and
others go first)</nitpick>
