Removing gftp-text
by Warren Togami
[root@ibmlaptop bin]# ls -l gftp*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 278 Apr 14 21:34 gftp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 301804 Apr 14 21:34 gftp-gtk
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 163828 Apr 14 21:34 gftp-text
I really want to just DELETE the gftp-text binary from the gftp package
in order to save some distribution package and filesystem space. gftp
the GUI client is great, but gftp-text really sucks. I can't imagine
that anybody prefers it over lftp or ncftp, and it has the usability of
"ftp".
Anybody see any good reason to keep gftp-text? If I don't hear any good
reason within the next 18 hours it will be deleted.

rawhide install aborts on setools-1.2.1-7 install
by Dax Kelson
I tried to install the 04/14/04 rawhide twice. I did an "Everything"
install and everything was good until right near the end I got a fatal
message that the setools RPM couldn't be installed.
Plenty of diskspace (12GB) was available.
Out on a text terminal (F4??) there was a cpio error message.

Fedora Tracker update
by Brad Smith
Just an update on Fedora Tracker. Work has been slowish lately because
of the whole "real job" thing, but here's the latest:
* The Tracker now has a sensible url: http://www.fedoratracker.org
* Packages _should_ now be sorted by name/epoch/version/release. Someone
tell me if they can find an example to the contrary.
* Simplified (and yet more flexible) default repo search page
* All the sourceforge bells-and-whistles: CVS, mailing list, etc.
* Added a 'resources' page with links to the above-mentioned
bells-and-whistles as well as a more coherent legal policy.
I'm currently cross-posting updates between the fedora-devel list and
the fedoratracker list, but I would like to migrate discussion, bug
reports, etc for the Tracker over to its own list for simplicity's sake,
so please consider signing up for it and CC'ing your response there.
Thanks,
Brad
P.S. If you're receiving this and aren't on one of these mailing lists
it's because you emailed me something privately that led me to believe
you'd care about one or more of the changes described above.

AFS and Fedora and the 2.6 kernel
by Matthew Miller
We're heavy AFS users here at Boston University, and it's going to be a
major blow to not have an AFS client available. OpenAFS, last I looked, said
that it'd take them a year to properly develop a 2.6 version *if* they got
some funding to do so -- and they don't. Arla doesn't seem to be going
anywhere.
So that leaves the in-kernel AFS -- which was apparently developed by
someone at Red Hat. (An enterprise customer needed it, perhaps?)
I haven't played with this much, but I tried and failed to get it going in
Fedora Core 2 test 1. I'll need to speak with our AFS gurus to really figure
it out. But in the meantime,
Can someone point me to further information, or nicely tell me about, Red
Hat / Fedora's plans in this regard? And what I can do to help? (From a
tester's perspective at the very least.)
Thanks!

Programming TV capturing cards and display devices
by chikku belli
Hi all,
I have a board which sits in PCI slot. It takes TV signal as input and produces MPEG-2 data. I want to capture this MPEG-2 data from my application and display it on the PC monitor. In this regard I want to know how to program the PC monitor (display device).
I want to display the picture live@"similar to displaying MPEG movie using any standard player". Please give me some links or tips on how to go about this. I have tried to search in the net but did not find any link which clearly tells me how to go about.
Thanks in advance.

ASUS SK8V and Sound
by Gene C.
OK, I am looking for someone who has a ASUS SK8V motherboard (the one for
socket940) and who is running Fedora Core 2 Test 2. There appear to be a
number of folks who have the ASUS K8V socket754 motherboard and it may truly
be identical except for the socket but I do not know that so I am focusing on
the SK8V.
My problem is sound. The SK8V has a VIA8322 adapter on the mobo ( VIA
Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)).
It does not work on FC2. It works fine on FC1 but the sound drivers are OSS
on FC1 and ALSA on FC2. On FC2, everything (e.g, system-config-soundcard)
goes through the motions but no sound comes from the speakers. Yes, I have
the volume settings all maxed out and (after the selinux policy was fixed)
that seems to be working ... but no sound.
Anyone with an SK8V and running FC2, is your sound working or not?

Question: Linux kernel releases and Fedora kernel RPMs...
by Martin Stone
Hi,
I'm wondering what the policy is with regard to new kernel releases and Fedora
kernel RPMs... I see that kernel 2.4.25 has been released, but the latest Fedora
kernel RPM is still 2.4.22. Is there a policy that allows me to predict which
Linux releases will be compiled to RPMs for us?
Thanks!

gtk-doc related build problems
by Matthias Clasen
Hi Fedora developers,
Warren asked me to post to this list regarding recent build
problems with gnome-vfs and gnome-libs. The problem is that
the docs included in some of these old Gnome 1.4 packages contains
invalid markup, and it seems that openjade has become less
tolerant to that.
The simple fix for problems like these is to stop building
the docs, by using ./configure --disable-gtk-doc.
The plan for newer packages is that the tarballs should include
prebuilt docs, so that it shouldn't be necessary to run the
fragile gtk-doc stuff...
