Kernel lockup problems
by Dennis Jacobfeuerborn
Hi,
I have been running the kernel-2.6.1-1.65 package on my Fedora Core 1
box now for quite a while without any problems but yesterday I updated
to kernel-2.6.3-1.97 and since then my machine keeps locking up after
roughly 30-60 minutes. Since I have an nforce2 based board and read on
the lkml that there have been problems with nforce and apic combinations
I also tried using the noapic option but that didn't help. I'm going to
try the new 1.100 package now but what is the proper way to find out
what the problem is in this case? Right now I'm not running any
proprietary kernel modules so I don't have any idea what might cause
this problem.
Regards,
Dennis

Athlon Incompatible Packages
by Ivan Gyurdiev
Is there any reason why those packages restrict arch to 386 and are not
compatible with athlon, or is that a bug? I'd like to be able to rebuild
them. Would you like me to file a bugzilla on each one?

Re: plugins for pppd (pppoatm)
by Dario Lesca
Hi,
I have add to ppp-2.4.1-15.src.rpm some plugins, like the PPPoATM plugins,
useful for xDSL modem
The src.rpm is here: http://www.solinos.it/pubblica/rpms-x-fc1/
Do you think that it is useful to insert it in FC2 (mandrake 9.0 have it)
If you think that I must modify some part (like dependencies whit
linux-atm-2.4.1-1), pleas tell mi.
I have also make (amd use!) a rpm driver for modem adsl usb conexant (like
Atlantis I-Storm) ... if someone is interess to it, please tell mi....
Thank for attention ... and sorry for my bad english

Fedora Bug Day Tomorrow: Feb 25th 2004: Eat bugs before the bugs eat you
by Jef Spaleta
What: Fedora Bug Day: making bugzilla cry uncle
Tomorrow is a general effort to triage Fedora Core bugs, I'm sure there
are some bugs against the fc2 test release that can use a group hug from
community triaging, a hug or a baseball bat in the form of a well
crafted patch. Interested in helping out trying to close bug reports out
or marking them up, show up on the #fedora-bugs irc channel tomorrow,
and get you feet wet in the triage discussions,
And if wading into Fedora Core's bugzilla looking for bugreports to try
to help close, isn't you cup of tea, you might find helping with the
fedora.us addon package QA process is something you want to start
getting involved in. 330+ packages waiting for peer review in the QA que
( http://www.fedora.us/QA ). If you are interested in helping out with
that fedora.us QA effort, but don't really know how to get started, pick
a package in that list you like, and drop in on the irc channel and
hopefully someone an find some time to answer your questions about how
you go about helping out with QA.
I'm feeling bad about not having enough time to be around last week,
so I have deliberately broken the equipment I'm responsible for at work,
so that I can have enough time tomorrow to shepherd the volunteers for a
Fedora Bug Day. Well, i didn't really deliberately break the equipment.
It's sort of their fault for tying me to my desk with a critical high
voltage power cable not expecting me to chew through it to get to the
coffee machine. Anyways...
When: Feb 25th, starting at 14:00 UTC (09:00 EST),
Where: #fedora-bugs channel on freenode irc network
Who: Pretty much everyone. If you have a little time to spare, and want to
help make it easier for the developers by helping organize the untamed
sea of bugreports in bugzilla, then triage just might be for you. You
don't need to code(though if you can, patch submissions are always
welcome), you just need a web browser and an account at bugzilla.redhat.
com. An irc client or email client would help too...since you probably
want to try to communicate to the other triagers either on irc on the
fedora-bugs channel at freenode, or in the mailinglist at duke.
https://lists.dulug.duke.edu/pipermail/fedora-triage-list/
Huh: No Clue What I'm talking about when I say the phrase Fedora Triage?
Take a quick look at the fedora-triage-list archives:

These messages should hopefully tell you what its all about in more
detail:

Compiling iteraid driver for use at installation
by Paul Gear
Hi folks,
I've asked this on fedora-list, with no response, so please have pity on
me for asking it here... :-)
I'm trying to upgrade from Red Hat Linux 9 to Fedora Core 1 on my
Gigabyte GA-7N400Pro motherboard. I'm using RAID 1 under the iteraid
driver at present, and i need to make a module that i can load from
floppy during installation (before anaconda searches for installations
to upgrade).
I'm compiling iteraid from the source at
http://www.ite.com.tw/pc/LinuxSrc_it8212_092005-05.zip, but i keep
running into one of two problems:
1. The module symbol versioning kicks in and complains of unresolved
symbols (e.g. register_chrdev_R91ec41d1, scsi_register_Rc18333384).
2. I've tried to configure my kernel on another box to support
compiling modules without symbol versioning, and i get kernel version
mismatches (due to the "custom" on the end of the EXTRAVERSION).
So my questions are:
- If i install FC1 on a non-RAID hard disk in the same system, the
iteraid driver i built from a running system works fine. So there must
be something different about the installer kernel and the runtime
kernel. What is it?
- If i assuming rightly that the installation kernel doesn't use
kernel versioning, how can i compile a module that will make the
module correctly for use in the installer? I've gone through the "make
mrproper, make config, make dep, make" routine on the default kernel,
and i've come up with the same result.
- If that is not likely the problem, is there another way i can get my
system upgraded? I've heard yum can actually do OS upgrades - is this
possible for going from RHL9 to FC1?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

anybody notice fetchmail in daemon/poll mode doesn't seem to work?
by Mark Mielke
A few weeks ago, I updated fetchmail to devel-list, and ever since, my
fetchmail configuration no longer functions properly in daemon mode.
The symptoms seem to be that when fetchmail first starts up, it goes into
the background, and fetches mail as expected, but then, once it has downloaded
all new email, it never notices new email again. I "fetchmail -q" and then
"fetchmail" before reading email as a work around.
Is this working for anybody else (suggesting it is a configuration problem
on my end)?
My .fetchmailrc follows (with personal fields dotted out):
-- CUT --
set logfile "/home/mark/.fetchmail.log"
set postmaster "mark"
set nobouncemail
set properties ""
set daemon 30
set invisible
poll ... with protocol imap
user "..." there with password "..." is mark here
warnings 3600
mda "/usr/bin/procmail -d mark"
antispam 571 550 501 554
fetchall
poll ... with protocol pop3
user "..." there with password "..." is mark here
warnings 3600
mda "/usr/bin/procmail -d mark"
antispam 571 550 501 554
fetchall
-- CUT --
This configuration file has been working for a few months now without any
change to .fetchmailrc. I suppose it is possible that the imap server
(dovecot) is messing it up somehow...
Thanks,
mark
