What version of mkinitrd are you using? I had the same problem and had
to downgrade to mkinitrd that came with FC1 and reinstall the kernel
again and that should fix it.

Peter,
You have to supply a proper initrd that handles resolving the label for
you. Reportedly there is a bug in a recent mkinitrd rpm so you may need
to downgrade before creating an initrd image, check out this bugzilla
entry:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=112623
Of course you'll have to make sure your grub or lilo entry properly
references this initrd as well.
Cheers,
Sean

There was some old patches to update this driver to 2.6 floating around
on linux-kernel. It seems that the authors of them never followed
through for some reason :(

fedora.us false alarm
by Warren Togami
The servers did not go down. I learned this morning that there was a
bit of misunderstanding in communication, and it is the air conditioning
and not power that would be down.
All fedora.us services should be back up now. I moved the DNS for
www.fedora.us and download.fedora.us back to 128.171.104.133, but that
will take a while to take effect.

dlopen fails for libpthread
by Mike Perry
It seems as if I am unable to dlopen libpthread.so.0.. I'm running
Fedora Core 1 with glibc-2.3.2-101.1 and gcc-3.3.2-1.
Is this something I'm doing wrong? or is this a real bug?
--- PASTE INTO SHELL ---
cat > tmp.c << EOF
#include <stdio.h>
#include <dlfcn.h>
int main()
{
void* handle = NULL;
if ((handle = dlopen("/lib/libpthread.so.0", RTLD_LAZY)) == NULL)
printf("Dlerror: %s\n", dlerror());
return 0;
}
EOF
gcc tmp.c -o tmp -ldl
./tmp

Output is:

rawhide questions
by Matthew T. O'Connor
Hello, I just installed a fresh copy of the fedora development version
onto a separate partition on my PC. I downloaded the 5MB boot.iso and
did a network install. Install went fine, but I have a few questions /
problems which might all be expected.
mouse is too fast - I have a USB Optical MS Intellimouse, works fine
under FC1 with the 2.4 kernel. When I tried out arjan's 2.6 test kernel
on FC1 I had the same problem. The mouse is very fast (sensitive), to
the point that it's barely useable. Perhaps there is a way to configure
this, but I don't know it.
no sound - since we are on 2.6, I would guess we are using ALSA, but
none of the alsa utilities were installed, I assume this just hasn't
been done yet. system-config-sound properly identifies my hardware, but
I get no sound.
system-config-users crashes: when I run it, I get this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/system-config-users/system-config-users.py", line 25,
in ?
import libuser
ImportError: No module named libuser
xmms crashes - I just get a message that there was a Segmentation fault.
Any feedback would be appreciated. If I get the mouse and the sound
worked out, I would be happy to keep using, testing and reporting
problems with the development versions of FC.
Thanks much,
Matthew

Ouch: Fedora Core 1 bug in anaconda
by Hugo van der Kooij
Hi,
I had some trouble with installing Fedora Core 1 on a machine. I just
finished upgrading some others and went through partitioning and package
selection the manual way (as usual).
It then did bug me with python errors and aborted installation. I saved it
to disk and it reads like:
