fedora and GCL

Memory is managed in a new way in Fedora (the new redhat) distro.
For instance, you can't execute from stack allocated memory.
GCL will not build on Fedora Core 1:

tools or scripts for release engineering?

Are there any tools or scripts for Fedora Core release engineering?
In other words, the stuff that takes a big collection of SRPMS, and
results in the ISO images?
Failing that, is there some documentation on how it is done?
I'm sure that with enough trial and error I could eventually come close
to duplicating the way it's done officially, but if there are tools
and/or docs, it's obviously much easier.

A: Not exclusively but sure I would be willing to pull packages from the
QA queue on fedora.us and check against packaging guidelines.

A: I'm just hoping to contribute in anyway possible to the
process/people in which I have already benefited beyond repay.
HISTORICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Q: What other projects have you worked on in the past?
A: OSS/FS - pixi (XInclude processor in Java), misc patches here and
there to other OSS/FS projects, Yum.

A: C, C++, Python, Java, Perl, bash. X{ML,SLT,Path}
Q: Why should we trust you?
A: Eh.. I guess that's a tough one. I guess I'm hoping to build trust as
described in the fedora.us /Package Submission QAPolicy/. Excerpt
follows. Is this sufficient or is there some standard method of
asserting one's trustworthiness that I'm not aware of?

External firewire disk curruption on reads under FC1...

Well, I am not a developer, but I thought this is an appropriate question on
this list.
I was just wondering whether anybody had seen disk corruptions under FC1 with
external firewire hard drives. I have tried it on three different machines now
with the FC1 kernel and it happens every time after some heavy read operations
on the drive. I did not see any corruption under the Red Hat 9 kernel on any
of those machines. I can write data from the workstations to the firewire
drive without a problem, but when I rsync back (particularly with large files)
or if I try to install rpms from the firewire drive onto the workstation, I
get massive disk corruption on the firewire drive, which totally trashes the
drive, the ext3 filesystem journal is destroyed in the process and e2fsck
reports massive errors on files where previous read operations occured. I
would be willing to do some more testing if I get some instructions on how to
diagnose it...

UML project for Cambridge++ (update 3)

I have been doing other things until recently, but here is another update.
I have now (just) got an anaconda UML install of Fedora Core 1 working
(with a 2.4 kernel), with only a small change using an updates.img file
needed, see

I am still having problems with 2.6 kernel crashes; it seems that
exec-shield problems come back if you compile the (2.4 or 2.6) uml kernel
on Fedora, and my (revised) patch fixes one problem, but the kernel will
still crash soon after, at least some of the time, and always seems to
crash when you try to shut it down. The tls problem is still there, and I
hope to get back to looking at the missing thread system calls soon.

Have graduated from IT in 2002 from RMIT University (http://www.rmit.edu.au/); halfway through my Law degree at the University of Melbourne (http://www.unimelb.edu.au/), so still fulltime student. Over the summer break I'm working on a Jabber project at Monash University (http://www.monash.edu.au/).
5. My goals in the project
My goals would be to ensure a wide-variety of prepackaged non-core software; I tend to maintain a lot of RPMs for whatever platform I use internally, and I'm I'm maintaining an RPM for Fedora Core 1 then other users may as well have access to it as well. For example, BOCHS, fvwm and subversion. This of course includes (some of) my own software (http://freshmeat.net/~malxau/ , http://yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au/~malsmith/).
QA - of course :)
Anything else special? Depends what you need me to do...
6. Historical qualifications
Well, apart from my own software listed above, not much. You can find me lurking on computing.net or making the occasional post to lkml, or working on any project where I can be of assistance. I've had peripheral involvement with a few projects (koffice, kernel, wine) but don't have any 'hard' contributions as yet :(
Computer languages and skills - I always gravitate back to C and C++. And I know them fairly well, although don't push C++'s advanced features coz it makes code messy...
Why should you trust me? Because I haven't crossed you ;). It's really hard to say why somebody should trust you - I have my software, it's on my website, and there are no trojans in it! I do try to get things right, and when I don't, it's a bug.
