I think you're missing the biggest part of the problem, filing bugs.
I've
already filled bug in xine-lib's bugzilla about matroska+theora
support [1], so long ago that I even forgot I did so... I'm going to try
the rest in rawhide first (according to dirac compatibility matrix [2]
some of these should be fixed by now).
