Just to interject, as I mentioned in the original message, the boot splash
is also visible for the entire time that offline updates are running (which
may be for *minutes*), so that *is* an opportunity for an improved
experience.
I'm not trying to dictate what experience that should be, but as near as I
can tell, no one is arguing that the current one is perfect. So let's hear
some ideas on how to fix it.
