We should make use of this:
"We now expose information on whether a particular connection is
metered. It’s intended for tools like package managers that like
pre-fetch large amount of data to be able to avoid increasing your
Mobile connectivity bills." [1]
So far as I can see, this isn't exposed in nm-connection-editor yet; it
needs to be, as probably auto-detection of metered connections can
never be perfect. But yeah, it seems like the obvious place to start.
From the discussions I just looked up it looks like this feature
actually started in Software and got pushed 'down the stack' into NM,
so I expect Software already supports it; I don't know if dnf does,
though.
