Hi guys,
it's been a long time since last my email on this mailing list, but I've heard FUDCon EMEA is coming to Italy and the Italian ambassadors and I want to help in the best way to make the event possible.
I've never been involved in FUDCon preparations (I saw some banners, t-shirts, etc...), and I hope I can help doing something.
Do you already have some ideas for the FUDCon Milan 2011?
Let me know and see you soon! (Maybe we can schedule a meeting in irc.. can't we?)
Ciao Samuele
Hello Samuele.
A quick research (and a lot of questions to my grandparent) make me do a list of the most important places or things about Milan. I would like that if you have more info related to more places pls, add it to the thread so we can grab ideas to develop the artwork.
afaik, the base of what will be needed are:
* Posters * web banners * banners (the big ones) * T-shirts * Booklet * Note posters (good to indicate places, directions or further info) * Identification (badges I guess) * Anything else related (badges, stickers, )
Some links:

Hi Maria,
I want to show you the real symbol of Milano:
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duomo_di_Milano
And the Madonnina it is a statue of Saint Mary on the top of the Duomo, there's a lot of folkloristic songs talking about it.
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Milano_Madonnina_closer.jpg
Here in Italy the most representative things about Milan are those, but I know the issue with the religions so let me propose you to work only on the Milan's Duomo.
And Paul I wonder to show you and to all the group some proposal to discuss about in some few days.
Samuele

Hi Folks
I've got some proposals for the Fudcon Emea's logo, I worked on too solutions:
1) with integrating one of the most meaningful monument of Milan in the Logo: the Duomo.
2) adding some others Italian monuments 'cause I'm a little afraid that not all the people may knows about the Milan's Duomo, so I've added the Colosseum, the Pisa's Leaning Tower and the Michelangelo's David.
Let me know your opinions so we can discuss about any of your suggestions and some your proposals.
Cheers
Samuele

I love them, but (I will bother you) can you upload a flat color version?
Remember that our headache are t-shirt printings, so would be nice to mix those 2 blues and see what can came up.
the design is cool and I love the look and feel.
In voting I vote for the 1st one as it is simple.
I have some notes too.
Personally I think too much details ruin the art of the design therefore what about removing Michelangelo's David. The second one seems too detaily.
As tatica said we have to think of tshirts also. The number of screens should be 2-3 think of that. This would be the hard part.
Great work so far.
Yep,
After your feedback I can provide you this 3 versions with flattened color
Let me know your guess.

ok.. I have a dilema here.
1.- When I think in Italy, first thing that come to my mind is pizza tower... but also coliseo. 2.- Church even if might have a more deep meaning for Italian people might not be a catching related image from Italy for the rest (or might need further explanation of -which- church is) (even if the church looks amazing) 3.- flat color +1
I will ask again: Could you do a version with each monument separated? (again.. just to bother you since you didn't upload svg :P )

Maybe we can use this as an opportunity to teach people about Milan? :)
Also, the Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum are *always* used when talking about Italy, you know? Might be fun to use something else for a change.
I really like the one with just the Duomo, it looks like it has just the right amount of detail.

I think it's cool to use a lesser-known highlight - for Boston FUDcon '08 when we first started using the 'landmark' artwork, we used the prudential tower in boston. If you don't live in Boston you might not know anything about it, but it's something you'd recognize in the skyline if you are in the city. Similarly, if the Duomo is a landmark in Milan, people who actually attend the conference will probably come across it while there, even if they don't know about it beforehand.
Also, aren't these other monuments folks are talking about outside of Milan? I think it's better to focus on Milan.
Just my stupid opinion.

+1 I think you're right and let me explain to you guys about the italian monuments, here in Italy the majority of the monuments are church or religious art pieces, it is cause here in Italy we have the Vatican and the Pope for a long time (and we still have) so it's not only a religious thing but a cultural's one. In the past the a lot of commitment are religious and artists work for them. I think use the colosseum alone it's not right 'cause the colosseum is in Rome and it's geographically wrong use it alone talkin about an event in Milan, it's like use the Empire State Building for an event in Buffalo, yes they're in US too, but in different state. For me the best solutions is use the second logo with some italian monuments, so we can show a taste of italy but with something correct (the Milan's Duomo).
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers Samuele

Well, Jef has a point.
Pisa: Toscana David: Florencia Colosseo: Roma
So, even if I find more -cultural important- (I'm a foreign) Santa Maria (since cenacolo is there) I found more apropiated for fudcon logo the Domo.
is a +1 from me, I just fix the shape a little since the tips from cathedral are really fine, they seem to not be with a similar size.
Hello,
Great.
Third one looks cool and less detaily.
As I understand you have used dark blue for 4 freedoms and MILAN word. And rest is light blue. So two screens. That is wonderful in cost side. And it looks nice too.
First one seems nicer but in the meaning side third one implies its italy.
So in definition logo should be some thing meaningful and nice artwork. Si I feel the third one satisfy both.
I vote for none :) The first one comes close. While I respect Churches, I'd rather we used the Colosseum alone there. My 2-cents.

That means it is ongoing _NOW_
Samuele, I will be online all weekend. Pls ping me at any IRC channel to talk about it.
I'm +1 to have a chat/video/smoke_signals meeting with you (and the rest of the team) this tuesday

Hi guys,
it's been a long time since last my email on this mailing list, but I've heard FUDCon EMEA is coming to Italy and the Italian ambassadors and I want to help in the best way to make the event possible.
Hi Samuele, nice to see you back here! A couple things you could think about far in advance:
* A design for a FUDCon banner similar to what you see at the top of https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Panama_2011 (or other FUDCons). You could incorporate something about Italian architecture, the Milan skyline, or some other idea of your own devising!
* A t-shirt design with something representative of cultural significance in Milan. Here's what Emily Dirsh did for the Tempe event: http://blogs.fedoraproject.org/wp/designteam/?p=18
I'm not an expert on such things, but I recall that you need to use just a couple colors so the T-shirt printing doesn't get too expensive. And of course you should feel free to consult with everyone here and in the local planning team to come up with great ideas. I know you'll come up with something awesome and I look forward to seeing it!
