Hi,
Christoph Wickert asked me to create a more "graphical" way for the Ambassadors' joining process. [1]
At the moment this is some kinda click through way through seven pages fully loaded with text and information. Which isn't very welcoming and friendly, especially for new people. (I know what I'm talkin about as I went through it not long ago!)
Now I made two mockups: * a starting page: http://vinz.fedorapeople.org/join-process/joining-intro.png * some template for the following steps: http://vinz.fedorapeople.org/join-process/joining-step.png
Maybe it's a possible way to create wiki templates for usage at every team which has a joining process.
Comments? vinz.
Vinz,
Any chance of seeing the registration/request work flow in a diagram with the requirements spelled out before the graphics are executed?
Cheers,
Christian Bryant | Los Angeles, CA

You mean, like a table of contents? Yeah, I think that's what should be on the first "slide".
vinz.
I was thinking a simple work flow diagram in Dia at first, but actually, even better, maybe a mock-up like what Matt did for GNU Social (http://foocorp.net/blog/)
Pencil: http://pencil.evolus.vn/en-US/Home.aspx
I'm probably over-complicating it at this point :)

You mean I should re-draw my detailed mockups roughly with pencil? That sounds really a bit over-complicated to me. :)
To clear things up: The mockups are in no way final designs. There is much space for creativity and ideas.

I'd never ask that :)

I was actually responding as an Ambassador and missed that this was the Design Team mailing list: Apologies :)
I recommended something like Pencil only because, as a development manager, I tend to review projects like this from a non-graphical perspective, just the raw requirements.
But you were asking designers so I better stop while I'm behind! :)
Cheers.

This work is nice and I like it. We can filter the info on the pages. Like most important info first and then the rest. Most of the time people not like to read lot of texts :).
I have a suggestion, we can present the process as a block diagram(may be a flow chart), one glance is enough to understand the whole process. We can put it on the intro part then they can get an good idea before reading in details. If u need help do contact your Ninja mate :).
I really love the intro part. Nice drawing :).

That's the idea of this click-through wizard: not have a bunchload of text, but get compressed infos.

Yeah, sounds useful to me. The single points should be clickable, so if someone comes back later he won't have to go through all pages again.
I really love the intro part. Nice drawing :).
Yes, me too! But to be honest: credits for the small guys go to tatica. I just used them in lack of some own faces. The drawing isn't fixed, I just wanted some small happy people representing the ambassadors. :)

Did u know that she works on something similar to that?

I made her a bunch of characters for it

Great, so we could use those guys for the different joining processes!

I think so, but there are still some characters missing, even there where wishes that I have to draw more girls.
So better speak with tatica what she has in mind.

/me reporting to work
So reading this thread makes me know that my crazy ideas are good :P So, at Panamá we talk about do some easy posters that can be printed and distributed to each team with simple steps so they can know how to join a particular team.
We talked about teams since we have more ambassadors than contributors so that's why we didn't thought about Ambassadors at that moment... now, I know we miss that poster and we need it :D
I'm still working on those so there is enough time to expand this idea. Now I have a couple of questions: (lets talk about ambassadors)
1.- Do we want an easy poster or flyer that people can grab and take? 2.- Are we thinking on set this into a slides set? 3.- We plan to add this as a step-b-step guide at our wiki?
I think that the best way to get this done is knowing "where" we plan to spread it and "to who".
I'm having problems with my ports at work so I cannot upload the sources to my fedorapeople.org until tomorrow night. is this ok? (if someone wants the svg just send me a pm mail)

I was just telling tatica that it might be better to use grown-up-ish characters like the ones in this imagery: https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/5/55/Fedora-15-livemedia-64.png
Since the target users are Ambassadors and wanna-be-ambassadors, I was thinking in formal lines ... as in, dress them in Jacket and tie but without much realism.
