Small idea
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi,
I have seen on several fedora videos that few users are put some
background pictures to the terminal - I think doesn't cost anything
for the upcoming Fedora F18 if we put gently looking Fedora logo / 4F
logo to the background.
What do you think, bad idea?

Hi, guys,
I am new at Fedora design team, but I have quite a lot of experience.
I think you could already see me working with F18 design posters and now I
will be working on Anaconda redesign.
You are welcome to talk to me. I will be really interested to help you with
your projects. All the info can be found at my Fedora page: Folklorin.
Cheers,

Fedora Events Web app
by Elad Alfassa
Hello designers and ambassadors!
A lot of people asked recently for a functioning Fedora event system. This
event system should replace the wiki pages we currently use to manage
events.
I think we should implement this, because this will have many benefits for
us (and the ability to show the users nearby events on their homepage is a
great plus)
What I imagine a perfect event system including is:
- Swag & budget management for ambassadors (instead of trac tickets)
- Exact time, date, map and any other special arrival instructions
- A free form text field for event information
- A list of Fedorian attendees of the event (every Fedorian should be
able to add himself as an atendee)
- Optional registration (in case the event is organized by the Fedora
community and not just a random event Fedora has a booth/stand at)
- Ability to attach event reports to the event page after the event is
over
- RSS feeds for events filtered by area
- Tags/Categories (so it'll be easy to search events by type and field
of interest)
- Email notifications for events in your area that you can sign up for
That's just what I can come up with now. What else would you like to see in
such an event system?
Does anyone want to start designing it (with mockups and everything)? Does
anyone have the time to implement such system?
Such event system will not only help ambassadors to organize events better
— it'll also help users to find events with Fedora presence in them, which
will surely help them become a part of the community and sooner or later
become contributors :)

This is rather interesting. Can we move it to the Fedora Infrastracture,
and have it used by all ambassadors globally?
Does it have localization support and such?

Need design help
by P J P
Hello Design team! :)
I'm Prasad, an avid Fedora user and package maintainer. I also run a small RSS feeds reader
at -> feedmug.com
I want to re-design its user interface and in that major objectives are:
1. create a new login/home page
2. replace html frames with a single page layout.
3. replace html tables with div's + CSS.
4. add support to display twitter feed along side the blog content.
5. other improvements which lead to a *pleasant* user experience.
While I can handle the back-end Perl CGI, MySQL and XML parsing bits, I can not seem to get my head around separating CSS from the HTML and using div's and jQuery to make requests.
I was wondering if one of you could help me with it, at least get me started somewhere.
Thank you!

-Prasad

UXPA Boston "Smorgasbord" talks -- Wednesday, Oct 17
by Matthew Miller
A friend of mine is speaking at this and invited me, and I thought it might
be of interest to Fedora design and ux people. It's not directly on topic, I
know, but the part about usability research on a modest budget particularly
caught my eye....
http://uxsmorgasbord.eventbrite.com/
In particular, Jen McGinn, the user reasearch lead for Oracle cloud and
social network talks about usability tests with "inexpensive (or free!)
tools", and Katherine Wahl, usability consultant at MIT, has a similar talk
titled "User Research on the Cheap: The user interview: the only real cost
is your time."
There's also talks on social media strategy and on mentorship, on drawbacks
in tablet UI design, ubituitous computing, and on "skeptUX".
