By the way, do you have any reference for this? The prstatus structure which contains a signal number seems to be present in coredumps at least on 2.6.32. Or am I misunderstanding the problem?
GDB cannot decode it now just from prstatus, assigned to Sergio: Add $_signo convenience variable https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=971849
