Hi all,
Finally, on the last meeting [1], regional community decided to support Phnom Penh as the next location for FUDCon APAC 2016. Although there are some small concerns/notes, we agreed to propose PP bid [2] as the only candidate.
According to the FUDCon bid process [3], we would like to bring it to FUDCon planning committee to review and make the final decision.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. Regional community and the organizing team will be more than happy to discuss any further stuffs.
Rgds, Tuan

Hello,
There is no response for over 2 weeks. Any updates on this?

Well, we were partly waiting for the internal budget discussion we just had (see other thread).
One detail I'm interested in is the plan for 100 attendees but travel subsidies for just 12, if I'm reading https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Bid_for_PhnomPenh_2016 right. How are those dozen selected? Are the other 88 expected to be locals, or will they be paying their own way? Is the target existing Fedora users, or new ones?
I'd also be interested in the suggestion of synergy with the Barcamp. If there's 3500-tech-interested people, why not focus on that event entirely and try to reach more than 100?
On a more general note, something for APAC region to consider... using very rough back-of-the-envelope calculations, the $17k proposed here could instead be used to get a dozen key contributors from APAC to Flock next year. How would doing that compare as value for the money in terms of overall benefit to the Fedora APAC community? (Not saying that's necessarily better — genuine question.)

I think that'll benefit the key Flock participants, but wouldn't help as much to the Fedora APAC community. It would not serve the purpose of bringing Fedora APAC contributors together, or help to grow the Fedora APAC community. (just thinking aloud)

I might be speculating but does this question arise because we don't see increase in number of contributors from APAC after an event like FUDCon APAC?
If that is the case, we might want to re-look at large event like FUDCon in this region and focus on having measurable ambassador programs and smaller local conferences which is not heavy on budget but good means to nurture and develop potential local Fedora contributors. We should look at Flock as a global event and fly key contributors from APAC. IMO, that will be more rewarding for people who really contribute. If we see the number of key contributors increase from this region then we can re-introduce FUDCon APAC?
My .2 cents.
Cheers, Sudhir
