... because while Discourse has a per-user digest feature, it doesn't have a non-user-associated way to send such a message. I considered setting up a dedicated account just for this purpose, but Smooge has talked me out of it.
We've got several other options:
1. Just close the list with one final message.
2. Close the list and add an auto-response directing to the new location.
3. Close the list and post a message montly reminding people to migrate if they're still interested in following.
4. Develop something that uses the Discourse API to provide an automatic summary.
5. Other ideas?
My personal thought is option 2, but I'd like to hear what you all think.
(I know I just said we should actually move where we're discussing things starting now, but this particular topic seems of most interest to current mailing list subscribers?)

Either of those is fine with me. We can also include a "hey, go read the Community Blog if you just want to be apprised of policy proposals and other big topics".
So just a stupid question I guess
If there is a community member who doesn't use discourse and you want to loop them into a discussion, say via CC, as we do all the time with mailing lists.... is there a way to do that?
I ask bc I dont intend to move to discourse, and if the messages dont get broadcast here I guess I'm out. If someone wanted to CC me in on smtg tho (which happens) what is the mechanism for that or am I essentially between a "monitor yet another thing" and "get left out of stuff you probably need to be involved with occasionally" ?
I just can't monitor yet another thing.

This is a missing essential feature.

Many people suffering from this, especially for long term engagements where communication is not very frequent, this is an issue.

This seems like a better solution, especially if other Fedora discussions will also take place on Discourse. Some relevant existing plugins: https://meta.discourse.org/t/chatroom-integration-plugin-discourse-chat-inte... https://meta.discourse.org/t/restore-mailing-list-mode-daily-summary/64761 https://meta.discourse.org/t/email-forward-plugin/83308

Might also consider Loomio (https://github.com/loomio/loomio) as an alternative to Discourse - it is setup to manage meetings and enhance decision making. It has a useful email notification feature: https://help.loomio.org/en/user_manual/users/email_settings/ It may be helpful to be able to comment by email on a topic to reduce the barrier to engagement.

Pinging on matrix, maybe? Or sending an email pointing to the discussion? Since you log into discussion.fedoraproject.org with your FAS account, there's no complicated migration or anything.
Looping unsubscribed people into mailing list discussion is problematic generally, because replies bounce, conversation gets split, and chaos insues.

Fedora Infra has a CPE weekly summary email with the main highlights. Platforms like Discourse and Loomio have configurations that guide conversations, but login process is long enough to discourage frequent engagement. This makes it unlikely for people to contribute to new topics with ongoing discussion that they could have an interest in but are not already subscribed to unless they are made aware of the discussion through a notification.

Without an official export to a mailing list, how do you keep the information publicly available if Discourse ceases to provide the service, for whatever reason?
Thanks, Florian

Discourse is completely open source, and we could run our own instance if need be.
The company creates their own off-site backups every 12 hours. Having an independent disaster recovery plan is probably a good idea, in the event that the company would suddenly vanish without being able to provide us with those backups.
It occurs to me, meanwhile, that one thing I could do to provide digest info to the list is to run rss2email. I'll take a look at what that would look like.
