You have as example LibrePlanet, who hosted their conference in March completely online
since the value of the conference was the content, and you have LGM who just decided to
push the conference to 2021 (same location) since the biggest value of the conference was
the gathering itself.
I think that the value in Flock has always been the Hallway Track far
more than the presentation content. (Not that we haven't had some
great talks over the years, of course!) Flock provides an opportunity
for people who generally interact with each other only via email, IRC
or in rare cases video-chat. I think attempting to convert Flock to an
online-only event would result in losing the most important part of
the event. In which case, I don't think that would be budget
well-spent.
Maybe we could convince our sponsors to let us put the budget aside to
fund more people to attend in 2021?
