Using EPEL as my source, trying to update this morning :
It wants to update: cobbler.noarch 2.4.4-1.el5 epel cobbler-web.noarch 2.4.4-1.el5 epel koan.noarch 2.4.4-1.el5 epel
And then it says: Error: Missing Dependency: virt-install is needed by package koan-2.4.4-1.el5.noarch (epel)
A search reveals that there is no such animal anywhere in EPEL or in anything that looks like ot is compatible with RHEL 5
Can I do without koan ? I use Cobbler for bare metal installs. Nothing virtual.

virt-install should be provided by python-virtinst. I see it in the CentOS-Base repo.

Probably. koan is helpful for VM installs and for kicking off reinstalls on a physical machine. But you can just PXE boot to start the install.
I am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux, not CentOS. I got nothing back from "yum provides */virt-unstall" run on the system.

Ah, right. Does that have python-simplejson?
(I suppose I need a rhel5 vm for testing...)
rhel-x86_64-server-5 has python-simplejson-2.0.9-8.el5.x86_64.rpm

Looks like it's in "rhel-5-server-vt-rpms". Can you do:
subscription-manager repos --enable=rhel-5-server-vt-rpms
?
RHEL Virtualization (v. 5 for 64-bit x86_64) Label: rhel-x86_64-server-vt-5 python-virtinst-0.400.3-9.el5_5.1.noarch.rpm In the file list: /usr/bin/virt-install 2010-08-31 15:56:57 34,482 bytes
Probably a side effect of the re-arranging of the channels Red Hat did a short while back. I have been getting along without it since I originally posted. I would have to "sell" the features it enables to my current, very paranoid customer.
