So first I try
========================= [root@geppetto ~]# cobbler check The following are potential configuration items that you may want to fix:
1 : you need to set some SELinux rules if you want to use cobbler-web (an optional package), run the following: /usr/sbin/semanage fcontext -a -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t "/var/lib/cobbler/webui_sessions/.*" 2 : debmirror package is not installed, it will be required to manage debian deployments and repositories
Restart cobblerd and then run 'cobbler sync' to apply changes. [root@geppetto ~]# ==================
and then I do as cobbler check suggests:
================== [root@geppetto ~]# /usr/sbin/semanage fcontext -a -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t "/var/lib/cobbler/webui_sessions/.*" /usr/sbin/semanage: Type httpd_sys_content_rw_t is invalid, must be a file or device type [root@geppetto ~]# ==================
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Joost
That message can be ignored if you are not having any problems. You appear to be on an older version of cobbler (2.2.3-2?) but most systems today work fine with cobbler and SELinux enabled. The only thing you should have to do is set some booleans:
allow_httpd_mod_auth_pam --> on httpd_can_network_connect --> on httpd_tmp_exec --> on

yes the one from repoforge, the error was gone after installing debmirror via epel (not available in repoforge) I am just a bit scared from epel, after I had a couple breaks, and after reading this: ---http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories---- Mailing list for EPEL developmenthttps://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/epel-devel-list- not really a support list, but seems to be the only option. On that list, an EPEL community member has indicated that attending to CentOS support and compatibility (to 'cater for' CentOS) was not an EPEL responsibility to him, as the CentOS usage level was not "verified with a realistic statistic"https://www.redhat.com/archives/epel-devel-list/2009-July/msg00073.html. Another at EPEL recalled the history and represented a 'cooler head' with a goal to not gratuitously breakhttps://www.redhat.com/archives/epel-devel-list/2009-July/msg00076.htmlCentOS with version skew. ------------------------ https://www.redhat.com/archives/epel-devel-list/2009-July/msg00073.html
I now have this, looks easy: =============== [root@geppetto ~]# cobbler check The following are potential configuration items that you may want to fix:
1 : SELinux is enabled. Please review the following wiki page for details on ensuring cobbler works correctly in your SELinux environment: https://github.com/cobbler/cobbler/wiki/Selinux 2 : comment out 'dists' on /etc/debmirror.conf for proper debian support 3 : comment out 'arches' on /etc/debmirror.conf for proper debian support
Restart cobblerd and then run 'cobbler sync' to apply changes. [root@geppetto ~]#

Thanks james, the booleans you describe are indeed off, it doesn't seem absurd to switch them on...so I did, trusting your good intentions :-)

What distro are you using?
We are using CentOS 6.4 and had to install policycoreutils-python which provides semanage
yum -y install policycoreutils-python

yes centos 6.4: ============================= [root@geppetto ~]# cat /etc/*release CentOS release 6.4 (Final) LSB_VERSION=base-4.0-amd64:base-4.0-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch:graphics-4.0-amd64:graphics-4.0-noarch:printing-4.0-amd64:printing-4.0-noarch CentOS release 6.4 (Final) CentOS release 6.4 (Final) [root@geppetto ~]# ======================
I had installed policycoreutils-python as well, for another reason. the update of cobbler to version 2.4.0 (by epel repo) removed the suggestion from the "cobbler check" list
Thanks for thinking along,
Joost
