My understanding was that the first drive would be sda, the second sdb, etc.  What would cause them to skip sda but only in cobbler?

Also, how do device labels work?  The documentation that I found indicates that I can link a specific drive to a specific partition, but what if I don't know which drive to use in the first place?  And I'm not sure how the UUIDs work.

Sorry for all the questions.  Most of my linux experience is just using simple desktops.

It could depend on the kernel enumerating the devices on the bus, recommended way of work is to use labels or UUID's to refer to devices

Asunto: [cobbler] Weird disk naming

I have a snippet to partition my disks.  In the snippet I have to name my disks sdb, sdc, sdd, and sde.

However, when I do a df or fdisk once the system is built, my disks have all shifted by one letter.  The partitions I defined as being on sdb are on sda instead.  sdc is on sdb, sdd is on sdc and finally sde is on sdd.

Is this expected behavior or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.
