This used to work just fine. After one of the updates to the system
running the cobbler server, it doesn't.
I have a virtual mini cluster I run using Virtual Box across two
iMacs and an HP laptop. I load them up from a cobbler system on one
of the iMacs. Was working just fine. Trying to update to CentOS
7.3.1611 so I put that in the cobbler system. Still works just fine
apparently on the VMs running on the other iMacs, the test VM on the
cobbler host and the remaining node on the laptop.
One of the VMs on the laptop failed to install. I made a VM on the
same host that runs the cobbler server with the same MAC, IP, and
name as the failing system. All that did was cause it to fail
faster, less network involved. As the subject says, dracut fails at
not being able to mount the root fs. I've tried removing the system
definition from cobbler and recreating it.
However, the test system I have on the host running the cobbler VM
installs just fine. Two VMs I have on the other iMac install fine.
The remaining laptop VM installs fine. Something about this failing
VM, whether on the laptop or not, causes dratcut the fail in this
manner.
I've googled the failure and it is apparently recognized as
something that can happen. But why would it continue to install
successfully on four other VMs, one of which is also on the laptop?
The only kickstart items I've mucked with are what packages are
installed, because things changed a bit from 7 to 7.3.1611.
I tried the sample default cobbler install. Doesn't help much I
get a medal failure error. It's just these one VM.
