Hi,
I intend to take a ROS RPM packaging session at the upcoming FUDCon at Beijing in May. With that in mind, I'd like to take a couple of workshops to help interested parties learn the tools before the final hack session, so that we can get some actual work done at the event. A workshop a week should be fine:
Week #1: Introduction to ROS - what is ROS, why it'll be good to package it up for Fedora Week #2: Introduction to RPM packaging - a basic introduction where we'll walk through the hello world package Week #3: Introduction to SCL and ROS packaging Week #4: Q&A session
The FUDCon is still 7 weeks away. That gives us enough time.
Please forward this e-mail to the regional mailing lists, and anyone interested in the topics, *especially* people that plan to attend the FUDCon and contribute to Fedora as package maintainers.
If you'd like to attend the sessions, please fill in the whenisgood event organizer before Sunday, April 13. We will begin next week.

Pre-requisites: - Please create an FAS account. The "Join the package maintainers wiki page" tells you how. - Please learn how to use the IRC: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_IRC - Nothing else!

The sessions will be held at for the next 4 weeks at: 10:00 UTC each Thursday.
Please check the following link for your local times: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Fedora+ROS% 2FRPM+IRC+sessions&iso=20140417T10&ah=1
I've also added the event to fedocal: https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/list/ambassadors/
Please try and read up a little beforehand. I'll see you there!
Please note Many of us in the Fedora community are not able to travel. Is it possible to video the workshops, to keep the most salient parts. I am very keen to learn the week 2 stuff and the rest of the stuff, thereafter. If there are slides that I can use, I would like to do a similar presentation for Quebec and the North Eastern part of Canada/USA.
Regards
Leslie

Hi Leslie,
I don't think I have the time to make a video. I'll ask the fedora video folks (cc'd Nitesh) if they can help with that. All these workshops are over the IRC, so you can attend them if time permits.
What is the timezone for the workshops? I live at GMT-5 while peers of mine live in the west coast of Canada at GMT-8
Video of some of week2 would be great, if possible.
Regards
Leslie

I can maybe help in organizing/delivering similar session in-person separately for Quebec region. I was supposed to be at Beijing and help Ankur in this packaging 101 session but some exams have ruined the plan :-/ I can not however do the SCL/ROS packaging alone (Which essentially means I can just do the week 2 thing) I stay in Montreal just for the info.

Hi Ankur,
The two times in the above links do not match. I am not sure which is the correct one.
