Hey everyone!
How ya doin'? :) So this semester is just about wrapped up all over the place,
I'd imagine, I've been doing some thinking ahead on next semester. But first,
introspection, what's everyone been up to? Any good CampusAmb stories?
I guess I"ll start.
As some of you know, this semester is my first at Arizona State University,
one
of the largest public schools in the USA, majoring Computer Science. It's been
a
blast, and I've met all sorts of really incredible folks. I've fallen in to a
group of really cool upper classmen, most using either Ubuntu or Fedora, and
some KDEheads (important to me ;). We put on an InstallFest (more like a
general
meeting, I guess, not much installing it seemed) for the university LUG, which
went off fairly well; we're going to transition from only meeting in a mailing
list to having in-person monthly meetings. Woot! I've also got involved in
ASU's robotics club, which uses a ton of open source, and targets linux
(CentOS
to be exact) as one of their remote control systems. yay! :)
And now talk about your plans for next semester!
Next semester is FUDCon, which ASU is hosting, mostly due to the awesome work
of
Marketing team lead and The New Girl fedora project manager. :) AWESOME
opportunities there, we're working with a few different groups on campus,
including ASU's law department as a few Red Hat lawyers will be speaking at
the
conference. Much win!
I'm also considering running for ASULUG office, depending on who is
graduating.
We have a great platform, and a nice community, we just need someone to *do*
something with it, and that's kind of my goal.
As a longer term goal, I'm planning a POSSE event
(
http://teachingopensource.org/index.php/POSSE) locally which will bring ASU's
professors together with various other schools locally and some really awesome
developers to Make Awesome Happen, and get these professors involved in FOSS.
Because that's the end goal, right? :)
Feel free to discuss what everyone else is doing, even if it's "talking to
friends about Fedora", because that's still awesome. :)
Ryan!
