I have yum-3.2.22-33.el5 on RHEL 5.6. and I get the checksum error:
[Errno -3] Error performing checksum
Have you done this update?
Apparently the newer yum version on RHEL5 relies on python-hashlib for
sha256 support (since Python 2.4 doesn't have it). I have that package
installed on my RHEL5 box, which is why I didn't notice the problem. If
python-hashlib isn't installed, you'll get this error.
I've just now updated the RHEL5 repos to use sha checksums instead of
sha256, so if you clean your yum cache and try again you shouldn't have
this problem any more.
Thanks for your patience,
